Popping for Whiting?

I started catching Whiting 45yrs ago in Port Stephens NSW using live Yabbies freshly pumped or Bloodworms before digging for them was banned. I lived on a beach and only had to venture 50ft from my bedroom to catch one. I'm a bit skeptical and would never of thought you could get one on a lure, apparently you can and it's intrigued me into catching one on a popper, any advice on a good popper to try out?

Go the Berkley range of you want to cheaply dip your toe in the water and the Scumdogs and Popdogs are excellent..I've found the clearer body lures or prawn coloured to work best

down here in Mandurah. Fish the Sandy flats near weed edges in nothing deeper than knee depth.
As mentioned the Scumdogs and pups are a good start, and I agree with the colour. Better if the lure is transparent, either clear or "prawn" brown.
Ecogear Shrimp has also produced a few, and a few I have tried include Luckycraft sammi, Tiny roosta and a shrimp blade (think Ecogear)
Cast down wind and I havent found one particular action better than others. Almost depends on what the fish feel like. Even the lures that you "should" walk the dog sometimes get more follows with just a straight wind, but I prefer a twitch purely because its more fun.
Good set of Polarised glasses a must. I use a small net (a small pool scoop is cheaper than a tackle shop net) and a simple catch bag, and wear a fly fisherman jacket for some spares, pliers etc.
AND good wetsuit booties, crabs bite but cobbler and other sharp objects are worst.
Novara flats, Flats near Nairns and just north of the Leprechaun deli in Dawesville is a good start on the west side. East side in my opinion is better, less fished but you either nead a boat or long drive to get to those spots.
Now I dont know what others have found, but using the exact technique in Shark Bay, where there is many many times more yellowfin I have not caught one with a popper etc. But a red gulp worm on a long shank and fished like a lure bounching along the bottom kills them.
Must be something to do with what food is available in particular areas.

Yep im hooked. Watching whiting bumping each other off your lure in a attempt to get it first is crazy. The bye catch is always good too. Don't discount the flats in the swan river, giant herring will have you running with your 4lbs line.
