Old school tuna pole fishing vid

Stumbled on this vid from the old old days. If they had kept to this method of fishing we would probably still have a pretty good tuna fishery.
Vid is HERE

HERE is a vid where this old schol method is still being employed today but on a slightly different scale.

Crazy vid that - they must
Crazy vid that - they must have had some solid backs on em!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

yep
cant confirm those catch figures but they look about right. Other thing was that 30,000 was worth a couple of bucks a kilo compared to $20-$100+ for farmed and longline.
In those days here in southern oz the tuna were poled mostly on small boats no refrigeration and just ended up in a cannery.
In 7 odd years at it we hooked very little that wasnt used-1 seal, 2 turtles, a few mutton birds, no albatros. Crocodile sharks were one that were occasionally prolific but of no use.
