Old4New Life Jackets

Just letting everyone know that Marine Safety and RLSWA are taking foams and damaged inflatable life jackets and providing new inflatable ones for $50. My boat came with 6 cheap jackets so gonna convert 4 of them into new ones so I can always carry a full set on the boat

I was going to do the same

Thu, 2016-04-07 16:23

I was going to do the same but I thought that they had to be old or damaged as part of the terms and conditions. So I thought from what I had read that the cheap crappy new ones that came with our boat were excluded.  If some one knows for sure I would like to know

Not much of a saving as you

Not much of a saving as you can get a new manual inflatable for about $70+. You can only exchange and max of 4 per person. Hidden cost with inflatables is you need to check the CO2 cart every now and then as otherwise when you truly need it and it doesn't work you've just put your life in danger. In this sense the foam ones are better even though they're bulkier as no maintenance. With CO2 carts around $30 a pop it's not cheap maintenance. I know some saving better than none but all of you who need to have pfds have a boat and a lot already invested so the saving of $20 per jacket isn't much in comparison. However, it will save lives so there you go. I kinda like the neoprene ones but they're not in the 100/150 class.

You sound like my mum and the guys from work i.e. I shouldn't be worried about how much money I spent because I have a boat. Must be a generational/jealousy thing. Anyhow $40 is $40 and I'd rather get two discounted jackets and spend $40 on pints plus inflatable jackets is the difference between deckies wearing a jacket and them staying in the cabin.

I actually been in touch with them and they simply did not anticipate the demand and were literally quite staggered by the popularity of the program. Safe to say they'll be better armed next time around

Interesting they did not anticipate the strong interest even though the same program was run interstate with a huge response from the public.
