Bluejuice Abrohlos
Submitted by Tarpon on Sun, 2016-05-15 09:26
Hi all
I have been offered a free father/son weekender with Bluejuice at the Abrohlos in June
Is it generally OK weather wise that time of year, and what species do they normally target?
And what are the sleeping arrangements like and how many toilets on board?
Any advice from those who have been would be much appreciated before I confirm
Regards

free charter
you'd turn it down?
Not sure how old your son is, but my thought would be to trust the skipper for the weather, sleep in a swag on deck and shit in a bucket if need be and fish for whatever they are, only thing there you DONT want to catch is the sharks.
Kids adapt to conditions way better than adults, especially when they are told to
The numbers of toilets etc are covered under survey as regards passengers day and overnight, it wont be a porta potty, and there is no "hot bedding".
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.

Thanks guys
Thanks guys
But nothing is ever really free, taking time off work will cost etc etc
Son is 13 and much tougher than me
Others on board are also fathers/sons in similar profession as me so should be quite compatible
The one and only liveaboard I ever did was to the Monties over 15 years ago. 7 blokes, high protein diet, lots of beers, only one toilet.....
That and constant farting, snoring, male nudity......... Even though I caught some of the best fish of my life at the time I couldn't wait to get off
Just checking if anyone here has been on Bluejuice recently and can advise

Pretty sure there are a few
Pretty sure there are a few bluejuice reviews here. A quick search will find a couple. Not too many complimentary if I'm not mistaken.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

??
I'm sure there will be a deckie on board to bait your hooks and handle your fish too- maybe even wind them in for you as well- so you shouldn't be too far out of your comfort zone.
worst case scenario you could prob just stay in the cabin and watch fishing WA videos.
I reckon 99.9% of those on here would give their left nut (or prob both) for an offer like you have had. I guess someone has to make up the other 0.01%.
go mate- no second thoughts- you and your boy will love it.
cheers

More to the point, your boy
More to the point, your boy will love it, all while learning to deal with all the vagaries of human behaviour and more specifically masculine behaviour for better or worse!

Wow
It's gotta be a wind-up.
Either that or change the r to an m in your username
Better yet, give your tickets to me and I'll take my son! He'd sleep on broken glass and eat corks a week before to go on a trip like that!
Hope you have a great experience with your boy - they don't stay young forever.

I cannot understand why
I cannot understand why farting would surprise anyone on a charter trip it is the chundering I would be aware of. Go for it and make sure your son enjoys every moment even if you don't.
One of my students at Tafe doing a Pre-Apprenyice in Schools Fitting & Machining course aske me if he could miss a couple of days studies to go on a charter with his dad - I phoned his dad and said I would be more annoyed if he didn't go I even asked if I could carry his fishing gear.

Arrh 13 years old, the wonder years
Farting oops sorry flatulence, snoring how utterly uncool, and good god male nudity. What other types of debauchery could there possibly be awaiting to be discovered on board.
Your son is 13 years old, he is at the age (if not already) where he is going to be exposed to a far far more dangerous environment than being on a fishing trip under the watchful eye of his dad.
What I'm speaking about of course is being in that nice safe house of his mates' watching a good movie or doco about fishing or some other out door activity, and then one of the group he is with says " try a bit of this stuff, you will feel just great and go on the trip of your life," and sadly it could well last all his life and end up costing him his life.
Yep drugs, in that nice sterile environment lurks the biggest danger of all that will/can corrupt his whole life and out look on life. If you think that in his circle of friends either at his school or associates there is not 1 single person who has not some knowledge of drugs then all I can say to you is dad, it's time you sat down and discovered who your son is and who his friends are.
And listen to him and let him talk without taking over the talk and turning it into an interview.
By going fishing with him on this trip he is no doubt going to be exposed to the vagaries of the male homo sapiens, I put a penny to a pound that the skipper of a dad and son charter is not going to put up with any outlandish crude vulgar behaviour from the customers. He knows that he is on a charter for dads and sons' and the man knows where his next dollar will come from, again his paying customers.
Remember that the other passengers are on a dad and son fishing trip and they don't want to be on the trip from hell either.
Apart from the joys of fishing this trip could well be the bonding session that is going to be of such wealth to you in the future that it could well be priceless.
Don't load him up with your fears before you go out let him show you just who he is and you just may get a very pleasant surprise.
Have a good one.

fishing trips
Have to say that on various of our Abrolhos trips, all the kids have been exposed to all of us hanging our booty out the back, laughing at blind mullet floating away, one of the girls losing her knickers over the bow rail while we were fishing etc
All because Dad couldnt be blowede getting the toilet set up.
Top of the list?
Cam doing a poo on the coral at Morley Island and one of the others spotting a Royal Gala apple sticker on the outside of it, dont ask me how.
This provoked much interest and yelling etc and poking of it with sticks until I heard the ruckus.

Look at my Profile
One of the favourite and best things I ever did as a youngster (about 14) was a charter with the dad and mates up to Exxy on board Reel Affair (3days) and Top Gun (4 days). Never forget that with reds, Rankin's, trout and huge Cods etc coming over the rails.
My father was a anaesthetist and it was all Dr's up. One decided to go for a swim off the back when the bite died suddenly and it was hot. He barely made it back to the marlin board when a mega-huge tiger breached the water about 5m away, basically where he was a minute before. No wonder the bite went off. Never forget the look on his face.
Things like this stays in young minds forever, and you both will love it.
As for floating chiquito's - well that part of offshore fishing anyway!!??

Have experienced blue juice as well
We were unlucky enough to have basically a first time skipper( had been deckie for some time ) First of all the anchor winch died, this meant mooring at the only safe mooring this skipper knew. Hence we worked the same ground the whole trip coming back to the same spot. The weather wasn't kind so we got the worst of it as he kept going to South Kalbarri each day in 4 metre swell. The deck wash wasn't working so fish were not cleaned properly before bagging up. One deckie thought he was the next world magician and didn't pull his weight. The other deckie was spot on, smoked gunjga morning noon and night but didn't stop.
The last thing that did annoy us was we had caught plenty of crays ( 22 from memory ) we had only eaten a few of those. The deckie and skipper were arguing as to who would take the excess home. We were not offered any to take. Count me out of going with Blue juice again !

my experience on charters
have all been good, but it needs a positive attitude sounds like your already sceptical & reserved and doubt very much if your going to have a good time ,suggest ask your son what he wants to do if he is positive and keen - nags at you to go then do it if he is as reserved as you then i wouldnt bother, look boating is not for every one so if you dont go then ask what he likes doing and go with what he will enjoy rather than be railroaded into something that is not his thing.

Blue Juice- 2016
Went on BJ only last month with our Angling Club and it was fantastic (we've done a few charters over the years so opinion isn't based on over excitement).
Boat is a 60' with a new 1000HP diesel on it and it flys at a lazy 27knots- cruised at over 20 too. If there is more than 1 Blue Juice then the one we went on is the big red one owned/ skippered by Gary out of Gero.
Skipper was great and worked harder than most to get us on the fish even when they weren't biting. Crew were brilliant and kept the boat spick and span and made sure we all had 3 square meals a day and they hung out with us in the evenings for a chat and a drink. All fish cleaned, labelled, vac packed and frozen pretty much between drops!
Plenty of esky space for drinks and never ran out of ice.
One toilet/ shower but that's normal for a charter and wasn't an issue at all. Bunks are decent size and a/c down there too.
Definitely go again.
Cheers
