one bloke - two rods

hey fellas just looking for some advice on using two rods at once off the beach. tried it last weekend and ended up running back & forward between the two as the one in the pvc was always getting the bites then id swap and the other rod would get hit.
i was/am using an 8 footer with gangs and spoon sinker and a whole mulie (or two half mulies on separate hooks) and a smaller 6 footer with smaller mulies pieces or prawns and hanging onto that one. i throw the big rod out and let it sit the throw out the little one and hang onto that.
do i need to set a really light drag on the rod that is sitting or do i need to look at a different set up rig wise or am i just unlucky.
cheers

Set a light drag on the rod
Set a light drag on the rod that's in the rest & just stay close enough to hear it mate. I'd actually have both rods in holders within arms reach of a comfy chair, grab whichever one goes off first. Have a light drag setting so that if the second rod goes off while your fighting a fish on the first you don't have to worry about it ending up in the drink, just tangled with the fish your fighting. If it's a hot bite, settle for one rod & save the second rod for when things are a bit quiter.

i would suggest, do away
i would suggest, do away with the mulies if you want the bait in the water for a while, the pickers will destroy in seconds. i am assuming thats what the bites would be.
make sure your length of pvc pipe is in good and solid as there are some on here that have or nearly have lost rods to fish swimming off with them. also make sure that the drag is loose enough you can pull line out, not from the reel but grabbing the line at the end of the rod as tho a fish has it.if your using a second rod , get youself a second length of pipe that way you dont have to swap over in one pipe.

Just a heads up with losing
Just a heads up with losing rods, i personally always bring down a rubber mallet with me and get the pipes in there deep so there nice and sturdy insuring the rods arent going anywhere when getting a big hook up
Good things come to those who bait

i usualy fish with a mulie on
i usualy fish with a mulie on my smaller 10ft rod 15lb line with a star sinker and gangs and fish a large fillet or whole fish like whiting, herring, mullet or tailor which are all good bait on my 14 ft with 25 lb line stuffed up ast night had the drag to tight and snapped when trying to get it out of the rod holder fish was a monster might go back to the 30lb line seems a huge difference between 25 and 30lb
