One for the pro's advice welcomed

Hi Everyone, went to change impeller on a mercury 1996 25 hp 2 stroke and came upon this.  I think its called a gear housing sleeve.  Anyway looks badly corroded so i decided not to complete the job and this where i need advice.  Is this bad ?  Looks like seals are only mm from allowing water to get in gearbox.  Do i get a a mercury service centre to fix or do i just take the chance and complete impeller replacement.

Mate do the right thing and change the seal and or sleave.  Whether you do it or the dealer is up to you but it’s not worth taking the chance to just replace the impeller. It’s only going to get worse and not better until you do something about it.
