Onslow Mud Crabs
Submitted by Piggy on Wed, 2020-08-26 12:16
Tried the search bar with a little information but not heaps.
I wanted to know whether there was plenty of muddies in Onslow for the novice crabber. We are heading over to the mackeral islands in a few weeks and were considering taking a few drop nets up with us to plop in the creek systems either in the main creek or one of the 2 creeks a bit further north of Onslow. I have a 7m boat and wanted to know whether it was easy enough to get it up and down the creek systems or whether there was rocks etc that would give me dramas?
Any help would be appreciated, like I said we are novices and only want to catch a couple for a feed
Cheers

No- more like no fishing was
No- more like no fishing was allowed on wheatstone project
saw schools of mackies - thick as even swimming into the boat- standing on deck couldnt do anything
scarred me for life never going back to onslow
the creeks had some crab in i was told
the area is tidal - we were very limited when we could get in and out- if u pick your tide u should be ok getting in and out - go in slowly hour or so before high and sound around - pull pots on next high

Hey Josh,
I was talking to one of the old boys at Seabird a couple of months ago and he was telling me about the big blue swimmers he was bagging out on just out of the creek mouth in 20ft of water. Maybe that's worth having a crack at.

Was there a few months ago,
Was there a few months ago, some crabs in the Onslow river but you are better off going north. The first river north had a sandbar our the front from memory it was easy enough to get in with a small boat. Sharks smashed the traps out the front of Onslow when we tried for blue swimmers.

havnt been for a few years now
but have crabbed beadon and done alright near the salt pond intake ,went to all the river north lots of sand banks and have to watch tides got stuck a few times ,the best crabbing was actually right infront of the ramp at four mile creek .we bagged out every day ,the crabs were even coming up the bank to feed on fish frames someone had dumped near the edge but that's really shallow ,we had a roof topper that we took just for crabing
