OT's 10KG mulloway 21st-22nd Nov 2008
pick up the boys at about 7-7.30pm and went to E shed to get some yellowtail as live bait. manage about 15-18 of them then we took off to the narrows.
arrived there about 9.30-10pm. rig up and cast in which ever was still alive. tailors were not firing up yet and we were having some trouble as our live bait quickly died off and we were at a stage without bait. not till about 12am when the tailors start to bite when we were all happy knowing that we will not have worry about live bait for the rest of the night or should i say morning.
there were a couple of faulse alarm that got our hopes up and down i must add but come about 1.30am.. the reel went screaming. the fish was quickly set and the battle of the fitter begun.
15-20mins later... this baby was landed.
again, good job OT.

You boys have persisted, and been rewarded with an excellent fish! Well done.
I tried once, to catch a mulloway from the river - put in about 250 hours and did not land a single one. I think in the end I got so frustrated I banished my beach rod to the 'never to be seen again' part of my store room. It's still collecting dust somewhere there.
So to say it's hard to do it is an understatement - the group of you have done 2 in 2 weeks!

we finished up 4am in the
we finished up 4am in the morning today = ]...and narh we didnt have an esky...clean and gutted the fish there. = ]and took the fillets and the parts i want home.

Was caught on the same rig i used last time, two snelled 7/0 gama octopus circles on 60lb jinkai.
When i hooked up to this one i wanted nicson to have it, he has put alot of time in so it was only fair that i passed him my rod. Never seen such a big smile :) shoulda taken a photo of it.
Good job at bringing it in, and i didnt even need to jump in the water, just used the lip grip from the waters edge haha =p

I know how lucky it was, especially two in two weeks. I dont expect another for a year or two. It wasnt some bogus location or technique either just the usual spot usual rig. Two unlucky mulloway.
Next mission is to get a nice size dhu, never caught one.

flangies, i hear different.
flangies, if i hear right, there was another 18kg and a 13kg landed during the weekday b4 OT's was caught. seems like these huge mulloway and have been hanging around the area.
also a mate was fishing there with a 10gram twister this morning there with 6lb line and drag set at about 4lb and something big took it without giving him a chance to fight and clean his spool in one go, that is about 200yds of line.
there are a few big things still hanging around that area.
