Our river is milky blue!

Ever since settling here we have wondered why the Capel river is a weird milky blue colour. Last night I was told why. It appears that a local company on the river has overflow problems with its fat settling ponds & allegedly on Sunday mornings at 1am someone " accidently" turns the release valves on. The smell is f---g awful if you drive over the bridge at that time.
This to me is blatant environmental destruction, but as so many of our new found friends or their families work there I obviously dont want to be the reason for the company to cease its operation.
HELP !!!!

Mmmm that is a tricky one
I am sure they must have a better system for sorting out that problem. A phone call to the local community newspaper might see some sort of action taken.

yeah just view it from
on top of the old railway bridge & youll see what i mean specially in the deep pools. people reckon theres good redfin & cobblers ( whatever they are)in it & we caught decent bream down at the mouth last Autumn but hell it puts you off doesnt it?. F--ing disgrace its allowed to happen.
The only other rivers I know that colour are the NZ South Island monster rivers like the Waitaki & thats because they are glacier fed.

Now its milky green
as the algae kicks in. Nackers, Elgin is well upstream so there must be other polluters. Probably nutrients runoff from the old enemy SUPER PHOSPHATE!!
