Outboard turns over won't fire

SO I preped  the boat last for a fishing trip, outboard fired up  for a brief period then stopped. Won't fire any more. Turns over but no kick. My knowledge of outboards is next to nothing.

Ive checked fuel is getting there etc, Checked its definately in neutral, safety not active.

it's a Johnson 55hp.

Im an ametuer when it comes to fixing! Any help would be appreciated.

Fuel Spark and Air, How do

Sat, 2017-01-07 11:32

Fuel Spark and Air, How do you know its getting fuel?

Pull the plug out and try and rest it on some steel and turn it over, use a wire brush and clean the end of the plug with some petrol.

Make sure your air filter is clean but in this case it wont be that that is an issue...

You tube how to check for spark...

Maybe throw the plugs away anyway and get newys...

check if it starts on the choke. If it does and won't run when the choke is off, it means the jets are clogged.

Old fuel ?

Sat, 2017-01-07 14:28

Make sure you have fresh fuel and.... as per previous notes, give the plugs a real good clean.   It can only be fuel, air and spark

 If it's sparking and won't

If it's sparking and won't fire then you have a fuel flow issue.

You had another thread

You had another thread sourcing a fuel pump for it.

It didn't start b4 fuel pump changing ?

did you actually get a new one or test old one good?

As someone said above get a can of "start ya bastard" spray some in as you crank, if it fires then it has to be fuel.
