Outriggers????

G'day I am wondering if anybody has had any experience with these outriggers www.escapin.com.au/shop/index.php. I was looking at the reelax reef outriggers but this caught my eye as it is a fair bit cheaper.

Yep in the same boat as you
Yep in the same boat as you (excuse pun). Looking into the same ones. An Eastern states forum has a few threads on them, Reelax seem to be the bee's knee's, but expensive. From what I have gathered the stiffness is the key to a good rigger but that can be produced by having a forward stay attached to the rigger. Hope there are a few more people on here that have bought or seen these in use.

Hi Mate, Just a
Hi Mate,
Just a consideration depending on how much trolling you do. I have full outriggers on my boat, but I have also bought the below products form Reelax (multi mount riggers)that you can use nearly all the time instead of the outriggers *(unless dedicated marlin trolling or comps etc.)
www.reelax.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=271&products_id=1044
These riggers are super quality (not cheap though) and basically move into whatever angle you wish and have safety clips for trolling reels etc. The way I set them up is, if you have two rod holders on each gunnel side, set one of these up on each side angling out wide to get one rod on each side trolling out wide. I can run 5 rods with this setup (one wide on each gunnel, two straight back on each gunnel plus one off the middle back of my transom. I also tie a ritcher flasher off my back port bollard. This setup is very productive and saves me stuffing around with rigging up my full outrigger set (or in your case installing a complete set). Just a suggestion to consider before you shell out the money.

also, as a separate purpose,
also, as a separate purpose, when you angle these out wide, you can use them for holding baited rods for bottom bouncing. comes in handy, especially for deep drops etc.

I have the same
Only issue I found was the angle the rod tip ends up, have found we need to run rods without a top roller....

No I tend not to use rods
No I tend not to use rods with rollers. When and if we do though, just turn the rod 90 degrees in the rigger if that makes sense and its all good.

Thanks
For the feed back mullows, yeah tried all positions running them in holders that are already off set, they are fine in the holders that run in line with the gunnels. Just being greedy and trying to run as many options as possible in the spread.
Very happy with them and well priced for the quality they are.
Cheers!

Hey Jeff - I haven't had any
Hey Jeff - I haven't had any issues with these holders. But, I can't 100% recall whether I run my roller rods in the Reelax holders or in my normal rod holders. I will be using them on the weekend and let you know the outcome.

Cheers for you help
Cheers for you help everyone. After listening to your opinions and talking to a few people I have decided to go with the reelax gunnel mounts and the 4.5m poles. Now just to get thim fitted and the water to warm up a bit.
