Oxygen Theives

Worked a long day Wednesday got home late unpacked some gear couple of beers quick bite to eat and off to bed. Get awoken at 3am by banging on my bedroom window open the door and a guy is screaming at me me YOUR BOATS ON FIRE.!!

I bolt to the kitchen window as the boat is stored up the side of the house and it was totally ingulfed in flames WTF. I grab a garden hose the next door neighbor grabs his hose and the guy out the front grabbed one at this stage I am thinking my boat is totalled FUCK !! And it was burning the side of the house and roof so I start hosing there and then I thought there is about 180 litres of fuel on board this thing is going to explode and kill us all but I didn't care and just kept hosing.

The fire brigade is two minutes down the road so they were here quickly and took over and with all the smoke I closed the windows and went around the front and the first thing I ask is WTF happened!!! And the guy who banged on the window was there  with his partner and they said it was a parachute flare to which I said no way bullshit! they were driving along watching this flare in the sky and watched it go down in the vicinity of my house! Are you fuckin kidding me!!! THen another bloke speaks up and says it was a flare mate I saw it too.. AT this stage I am watching the death of my pride and joy trying to take it all in thinking  a flare has dropped from the sky and landed on my boat is this happening!!

They put out the fire saved the house and towed the boat out the front because of the fire risk and by then two more witnesses have rolled up and said they saw the flare too so 4 witnesses now so I am becoming a beleiver in the theory as far fetched as it sounds to me. MY boat had a full boat cover and the flare could only have landed on the front the section between the windscreen and bow rail as anywhere else it would of rolled off and if you look at what is left this area has the most damage. So this area would be 1.5 X 1.5 meters How unlucky am I !!

Now to the oxygen Theif that set the flare off. I live in Merriwa and does anyone know of any crack heads setting off flares in the early hours of Thursday morning??? Please PM me if you hear of anything and and I will keep your details anonymous. Boat is insured with club marine so hope they come to the party now. But she is trashed!!

Flare

Fri, 2016-04-01 09:45

Sad to see and hear your story about losing the boat. Club Marine I'm sure will get it sorted.

Could the flare have been coming from the boat rather than landing on the boat? Not sure how you store your stuff as I know many people store their safety gear off the boat to discourage theives but thought I would ask. Could the flare have been set off by the fire?

That's f*&ken unbelievable and f*&ken unlucky. I hope those responsible are caught, see the damage they have done and pay for their stupidity....wankers.!!

Could be worth putting on bookface and getting the message out and about if you haven't already done that.

Hope the insurance goes smoothly for you.... I recon this would be the first claim they have ever had with those circumstances.

Sorry to see , I presume the cover must’ve been a plastic type then it travelled to the clears etc who knows but it certainly went up struth . Not good mate , hopefully the insurance mob gets it sorted quick smart without dramas . Keep us updated

EDIT : was thinking most canvas these days were made fire retardant tents etc but unless it’s been treated it’s extremely flammable .. might be something to check when having covers made especially for the amount of coin they cost .

So sorry to see that your pride & joy has been demolished by some WAN#ERS stupidity. I hope all is resolved quickly for you and the Insurance company work with you, not against you.
I guess you / someone is lucky that the flare did not land on an aircon unit on the roof, as that could have been a very nasty outcome

Flares

Fri, 2016-04-01 11:08

When them mentioned flares I raced inside and checked and mine were in a spare room where I store them. The cover was a custom canvas cost 3.5 k. The Bimini and clears were new just redid the upholstery it was finished and and never got the chance to take her out completed was going to tomorrow. I put a lot of money and time into her and one mindless act of an idiot has destroyed her. Devestating

Very sorry to see this happen to you. glad to see the house is ok.

I'm insured with the same company and will be very interested in how they handle your claim, please keep all of us F/W members updated on how things pan out with them.

Insurance may cover the boat but it can never replace the good memories that are part and parcel of our pride and joy.
Memories of the great ones that got away etc.

I really feel for you and hope that the piece/s of human excrement that did this really suffer for it.

Some good news

Fri, 2016-04-29 18:42

Got the call about a week ago from club marine that my claim had been accepted and it was down to valuation. So sent photos and list of extras etc and get a call yesterday that they will cover me for the sum insured. Massive relief !! Puts an end to an unbelievable event and while I am still gutted about my boat I am glad I had it insured by the right insurance company. Club Marine will be getting my business in the future as they were excellent through this whole traumatic event and if any of you guys are looking to jump ship you couldn't go wrong with them. Also a big thank you to Rod at Joondalup boat shack who I went and saw a few days after the event because the boat is stored there and he sat me down and explained the process to me which I found comforting in the situation. Top bloke. So I went back there today and said my goodbyes to her as I had some great times on her. Still hard to see she went out like that! SO the hunt for a new rig begins

Well after the almost

Fri, 2016-04-29 19:02

Well after the almost unbelievable story of your boats final day, it is great to hear that you have been looked after and happy with the response and result of your insurer.

I am not insured with Club but will definitely look into them when my current insurance is due for renewal.

Good luck hunting for your next pride and joy and look forward to seeing what you pick

Glad to see club looked after you

After a trormatic experience like you have been throught the last thing you need or want is to be subject to a bit of hassle with an insurance company.

For sure insurance companies have to get all the facts together to sort it out and thankfully club have made the passage painless for you. Good on Club Marine for their good service.

Now for the get even time, sadly the police are run off their feet dealing with all levels of crime at the moment (just look at the stats in the paper) so to be realistic the chances of catching these waste of space types is not to good. Sorry for the negative.

However,if you have any kids going to the local school one of the things they can do is to keep their ears to the ground so as to speak for anyone bragging about the flare/s they set off.

How I would love

Sat, 2016-04-30 20:30

to get my hands on the vermin that did this.. Put the feelers out but got nothing back. But at the end of the day I would be the one who would end up in trouble as the system we live by gives them all the rights.. Would love to spend some quality time with him all the same
