Hi guys,
has anyone had experience with painting fibreglass boats. is it worth while, does it stick if done properly. Not concerned about the costs to prep & paint as I have a son who is a wicked spray painter, we would just like to hear from any good / bad experience
cheers

Painting fibreglass
hi wez0062
I own a smash shop and have painted fibreglass boats before
just make sure you really sand down the gelcoat /no shine edges / and use a quality 2 pack primer like jotun .I recommend 2 even coats then another sand down and spray away
Good luck guys .....

had mine painted
Had mine painted about 10 years ago . was happy with the job and it has lasted well . its now starting to chip off in places and going a bit chalky so time to repaint . I want to do it myself but not sure how to go about it . What paint to use , do I need to re prime , should I spray or roller and tip . Any help - info would be great .I don't even know what type of paint was put on to start with . I don't have a shed so it would be done in the driveway .

Silicone
Make sure there is no silicone anywhere on the boat or in the area.Had my hull done years ago in a spray shop in what we thought was a clean environment (spray cubical & extractor fan etc ) motor mechanic in shop next door to the paint shop degreased a motor in his shop after we had sprayed the hull of my boat ,so we found out later.
Because the degreaser he used was a silicone base all these little spots started to appear on the hull (silicon particles in the air ) absolutely nothing I could do to stop it .Have to wait till the paint drys rub back again and re spray.
Fu#$#%^ painful.
If you can get in a sealed booth do that so no contaminants can get on the paint (two pac).
