PE3 to 4 Offshore Plastics rod (help)
Yes I have read the old posts and searched it quite a bit, no I don’t need the links as I honestly didn’t find the answers to this question anywhere.
I do a considerable amount of fishing with large headed plastics (6 to 8 oz) and I am looking to find a rod that will suit this. This outfit will not really be multi-purpose as the only other thing it may do with it is a little demersal metal jigging….much prefer plastics though.
I am looking for the following characteristics;
- 6’ to 7’
- PE 3 to 4
- Capable of jigs 180 to 220g
- Still feels like a jigging rod
I have been looking around and I cannot find many rods that tick all the boxes other than the following;
- Ripple Fisher Selfish 614s
- Yamaga Blanks Galahad 62/4 (think this and the ripple are on the same blank)
- Patriot Designs Grand Oriental FK-V 60EX
- Fisherman Long jerker (8ft I know think this may be too big)
- Fisherman Ocean
- Daiwa Saltiga 64CJ
I only really want to buy this once (gonna cost a fortune), and would like to be happy with whatever I get, now most of these rods I am not going to get my hands on without paying for them first so what would everyone suggest?
Am I even looking in the right places, should I be looking at the nitros (can they handle those jig weights)? Should I be looking to snapper rods or Jerkers? Is there anywhere you know of I can put my grubby hands on some of these rods?
I am looking to put a Stella 8k with high end PE3 line on the outfit…does this sound about right?
Honestly am I missing something or is there a massive hole in the industry here? Surely I am not the only one that wants a rod to suit the bigger soft plastics?? All well and good to play with the 1 and 2 oz units but the fact is that they simply will not hold bottom with a decent current in 60m of water...

CJ, plenty of talk on them on
CJ, plenty of talk on them on this forum too
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

How does it handle the
How does it handle the heavier jigs?
It is only rated to 150g being that Im looking to jig out to 220 is this really realistic or pushing the rod outside its comfort zone too far?

The sf is rated to 210. I used a 235 shimano butterfly jig last charter in 60m and it handled ok but I think it seemed heavier coz I was using 130s all day. I mainly use 100-180 size jigs and its perfect for it.

The Saltiga 64cj won't match
The Saltiga 64cj won't match up with a Stella 8 to well, much more suited to a 5000. I have a Diawa Catalina 4020pe-h on the demon blood 64cj, PE 3 and jig up to 4 oz and its a perfectly balanced outfit.
I was looking for a rod for heavier jig heads to suit a Twinpower 6000, so far the Xzoga Taka-SI 6615 (6'6 PE5 350 gram) or the Saltiga SG63HSF (6'3 PE5 200-300 gram) look good but I haven't seen them in the flesh. They might be too heavy for what your looking for tho.
