Peel YFW at night on bait

Hi all
Years ago I recall seeing a Fishing WA show with I think Ryan and Steve (but it might have been that Pommie Bloke) fishing in Claremont at night using worms to catch YFW. That was to avoid the hordes of blowies at night.
Well we all know there is plenty of Yellow fin in the Mandurah estuary, just not heard of doing this at night.
To me it seems logical that if you can do that in Perth, it would be possible down here.
Has anyone tried it?
Because of work I don't often get the chance to pop for them, but thought about an afterwork night fish appealed, and there is also plenty of good worms in the Estuary.

Was next to an old bloke outside King Carnival last year popping for whiting and he was cleaning up on the gulp bloodworm soft plastics so that may be worth a shot

use that for thumper YFW around Shark bay. Havent tried it down here, but might.
But really looking at a night fish.

Cransy a mate of mine fishes with bait for them around the leprechaun during the day and doesn't do to bad when the weather warms up. not exactly sure how he goes with the blowies though. I've caught a 37cm one at night near the cut.

Live not far from there, and
that is where I get my fresh sandworms. So I certainly would be surprised to see lots of YFW there.
Havent tried popping there yet, but might be worth a try.

My oldies just finished
My oldies just finished building their house in Florida and have decided not to move down and keep it as a holiday house so we'll be part time residents in your neck of the woods soon although we already spend a few weekends a year at Melros. Best part of Mandurah imo

Melros is a hidden gem. Dad used to take us camping there a fair bit as kids and now we have a great house a short walk from the beach but now have an even better house right on the beach to use for free in Florida.
I'll hit ya up for sure as I'll likely be down Florida with the Mrs and kids tend to enjoy a sleep in and I am keen to start exploring Bouvard Reef.

mate was down there a few nights ago and there was about 30 people all along the jetty with buckets full of yellow fin whiting all up i think there would of been around 200 fish between them and they were all using paternoster rigs with a small hook and prawns or mullie cubes i dont agree with keeping that many fish but they are defently around
wont catch em sitting at home!

Were these the smaller spotty yellow fin whiting? Or the thumper solid yellow fin? Ive caught heaps of the spotty ones but the solid yellows are often hard to temp and around there they are usually up around the 35-40cm mark. I might have to get my arse back down there. Cheers for the heads up.

No luck Mandurah shallows
Tried using plastic worms last night in the shallows were I know the yfw hang out. Not even a nibble.

lFrom Perth, Launch from
lFrom Perth, Launch from Fernisdale and head out the Serpy and on your GPS you'll see a small round sandbar island to the west just after you pass the 2nd last red marker. I head around the front side of that with my Finns dinghy and then drift across the flats with a sea anchor casting my poppers with the wind and jumping out and scooping any crabs I see. It is bloody shallow though and I generally navigate around with the electric motor as I don't have electric trim on my 6hp but from there you can head to the flats between the two rivers or head further around to the south Yunderup flats.
If they aren't taking poppers swtich over to a small minnow with a clear and gold SX40 my absolute go to lure.

If the tide and wind allow have a look on the sand bank on the west side of the estuary between the two bridges.

See them regularly around
See them regularly around southyunderup flats and the flats across from the king carnival on the eastern side. From the dome Caffè down to the old Bridge.
