Pending World Record Barra
Submitted by Bunny on Wed, 2010-12-22 13:41
A mate called me this morning to say among some good fish he had caught last night at Lake Monduran his uncle got a big one they decided to keep. After numerous phone calls I was able to track down an officail weigh station nearby and she ended up going 44.64 kg.
Well done Dennis Harrold!! Out of a kayak too! If the record is accepted it easily surpasses David Powell's Tinaroo effort of 37.85 kg.
I'll post some photos when they come through.
By the way that's just shy of 99 pounds, gives you something to aim for Dennis!!

there will be the purists out there that say it dosnt count becuase it isnt wild
i guess for me i prefer wild fish although i have fished the impoundments and it is really fun
either way it is a bloody awesome capture, and out of a kayak too that is impressive

A central Queensland fisherman says he has claimed what may be the biggest ever barramundi caught on rod and reel.
Fishing from a kayak at Lake Monduran, near Bundaberg, Denis Harrold landed the monster fish, which tipped the scales at 44.6kg - breaking the old world record of 37.85kg. It measured in at 135cm with a whopping girth of 107cm.
“When I heard it crash, I knew it was a big fish,” Mr Harrold said.
“I didn't realise it was a world record barra, but I knew it was a snodger.”
Bundaberg Sportfishing Club weighmaster/recorder Elle Hodge confirmed the catch on official scales yesterday."

That would been unreal on a bloody kayak!!!
I probably wouldn't have killed it, but I'm led to believe Barra this size are like grannies and probably have stopped reproducing...I could be wrong tho.

Great fish. Shame about all
Great fish. Shame about all the small-minded comments on that story. Maybe they should have included some info about how the fish are stocked in the lake to be caught and they're unable to breed. Friggen urban hero greenies!!!
