Peron Penninsula / South Gregories fishing from Tinny

Hi All,

I have read the million posts on shark bay and peron, but chasing some more specific advice on fishing from a tinny (4m and 15 hp) out on Peron. Has anyone got any advice on which direction to head from South Gregories or will it be succesful enough heading to the reef straight out the front and sounding around? Wanting to target Pinks and Blacks a baldy or 2.

Have been up there landbased a couple of times. We are staying in Denham for first 2 weeks of April but from past experiences know that you have to go fairly wide to get reasonable fish. And because only taking the tinny this time will not have that option, so was going to do a couple of trips up to Peron. Or maybe thinking of fishing the first channel or 2 from Monkey Mia for Pinks and Blacks. Again, any info on which direction to head from there?

Cheers in advance.

 Hi Marto,

We've camped at South Gregories a few times now. It's a great spot for fishing from a tinny. If the water is clear enough head straight out approx. 1k there a few bombies you will spot easy. I mark them into the gps and go out later about an hour and a half before sunset. Anchor out on the sand outside the bombie and chuck bait or sp's back towards the bombie. You normally start with heaps of small ones that start to get bigger towards dark. We get the girls to set up a little flashing light on a star picket to help guide us back. Not really needed but makes it easy.

Good luck

Chris

Cheers. Sounds like a good start point. Would love to camp there but wont be able to this trip as already booked in town with the girls and kids. Will definitely make a day/evening/night trip or two up there, weather permitting. Will let you know how we go.

Marto the road can be fairly rough so be careful towing your dinj on the peron road.

If you get a nice day Bent Pin is the go for pinks and blacks. Is a fair way but easy enough when on smooth seas

Cheers Ol Tom. Yeah i have seen the condition the road gets in and just have my fingers crossed that it wont be too bad and hard on the gear doing it a couple of times during our stay! Dont think i will attempt anything too far offshore in the little tub.
