Persistents pay off! FIRST BARRA. I'M HOOKED!!

First cast bang 70 cm barra on the livie fought it then moved it to the rocks and then quickly climb down than pounced on the barra. I grab it in between the eyes that doesn't work so I grabbed the leader which gave way a wave comes pushes the barra into a hole I quickly grab it and it slides through my hands through the hole and out the otherside back into the ocean. Meanwhile I slip fall into the hole all cut up and bruised and the score is barra 1 josh 0 but I was never going to give up that quickly so kept my head high and got some more livies and kept persisting took another 2.5 hours but I got there in the end. Landed a 72cm 70cm and 60. Kept 2 and hooked a few more. Things I've learnt high tide is good, receding tide is better.

Bloody stoked as it's my first legal barras on line.

Looks to me like a salt water barra, no yellowing on the fins that I can see, great going the battle scare will make the first one more memorable.

nice fish, must say they are a 1000% better out of the salt. We caught stacks up at tinaroo a couple of weeks back, but they are all freshies and crap to eat. Some people rave about them, but they obviously haven't had one from the salt.

Jam

Jam that thumb and forefinger around the lower jaw and hang on tight. Watch out for there gill rakers on each side at the back of the head, they'll slice you open.

Thumb on the tounge and supporting the belly on big ones is the way to pick them up . As Big john said watch those gill rakers.
