Perth getting flogged?
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Mon, 2010-03-22 16:10
Just had a call from my old lady and I couldn't hear her speak over the noise of golfball sized hail hitting the roof. How are you all fairing down that way?

got my camera out just after the storm passed,
we missed the hail luckly, but got a fair bucket of rain.
Sunset with the reds and yellows was out of this world and a double complete 180 deg rainbow to the north made a stunning setting. I'll post some of the pics later once I have saved them to imageshack.

Significant hail in North Perth
Ping pong ball size. I picked up the boat out of storage this afternoon in anticipation of heading out midweek. I can't see any damage but its full of leaf and branch vegetation.

I got cought in the middle
I got cought in the middle of a fish at canning bridge when it came down. Waited out the hail in my nearby car and drove home at a crawl to find myself in a power outage and with a small flood. Didn't catch anything in the half our before the weather came in either. Bad day all around. Sitting in the dark on my phone in Vic park right now. If I can figure out how on my phone I'll post a pic and video of the hail at it's worst.

i was on the freeway in the car when it hit.
Traffic stopped, Hail bigger than golf balls, no car go out of it un-damaged, our car had rear window smashed in, broken mirrors and tail lights, and the car looks like its got acne.... rooted.
There was 3-4 inches of hail ont he freeway, sitting next to each other could nto hear the other person yell.
One of the most insane things Ive been in, and the wind must have been pushing 60+ knots, it was howling, with trees blowing down everywhere.
Got home,

Massive hail damage!
Just drove home from work and almost every car I saw was dented, also plenty of smashed windows and wind shields. Every car at work (Balcatta) that was parked outside (approx 120 cars) is hail damaged.

Heavy..
We Got smashed by hail as big as golf balls.Pergola has holes all through it.Two big trees came down in the backyard but fell forward. This saved the fence but only destroyed the washing line. Most of the houses with windows facing the storm have smashed windows at a minimum.Luckily the house stayed in one piece.
Definately the heaviest storm i have ever been in.

Me too
Driving north from Hillaries and headed right into the teeth of the storm. It looked pretty impressive.
The black subaru is dented to buggery. I tried to stop by the side of the road but the trees weren't much shelter. Golf ball size hail makes a big BANG as it hit sthe roof. I was just glad the sunroof didn't break.
Had to do several "river crossings" on Marmion Ave, talk about local flash flooding!!!

I am in Butler. Pretty much every house up here had water coming in the top of the windows from overflowing gutters. I spent all afternoon mopping mine and the neighbours houses. One neighbour had his artificial grass float away!!! He has been bagging me for my real grass for weeks, so he deserves it.
Hail was not too nasty, my brand new Navara was outside throughout and does not have a mark. It seems the big stuff got going from Kinross south.
I went to Rotto today at 9am and got back at 2pm. In hindsight, we were bloody lucky to get back safe.

very impresive rain
WOW what an afternoon , huge hail storm hits our office in Ossy park around 4.30 pm , we lost about 14 windscreens and mirrors on our work vans and the roofs dented all over the place let alone all our neighbours, plenty of sad sights , insurance is going to love the next few days for phone calls, at least no people got hurt and the travel home north on the freeway was just great, wish i had my cruiser for a change for the trip home with all the floods. just as well it didnt come through sunday afternoon while we were out diving, we started our secong dive around 3.00pm in nice sunshine and came up with massive black clouds everwhere

Caught in Hillaries
I was on the south groyne with user Simmo Ryan having a fish when it hit.
We watched the storm build and both agreed we didn't mind riding it out, as it looked like the brunt of it was moving well clear of us. In the space of a few minutes though, it changed direction and headed directly for Hillaries.
It was the most amazing thing, sitting there watching the swirling clouds push towards us. Had we known that hail was coming, we would have left there and then. The clouds looked like something straight out of the film independance day.
Fat rain started to fall - a bit cold but we carried on fishing. Next thing there was a big splash in front of me - I asked Simmo Ryan "Did you just throw something in the water?". His reply - "Nope." About five seconds later he says "I know what hit the water. There's a big f*cking hail stone by my feet".
At that point, the sky exploded. The stones hitting the water made it look like the water was boiling, and as were were on the groyne we had nowhere to hide.
My cover was a bucket resting on my head. Simmo Ryan used his fish filleting case. Unfortunately the exposed parts of our bodies were fair game so our necks, knees, toes, fingers, arms, etc all copped the brunt of the storm.
A very scary few minutes for us. Amazingly we both survived without a bruise (despite getting smashed by big lumps of ice!) and our cars were unscathed parked near AQWA.
Took me more than two hours to get home though to Kelmscott!
WHAT an experience.

Copped it good in Huntingdale
Backyard was in 2" of water, back fence blown over, side fence partially blown over, power went out at 5:30 and it was still out at 12:30 last night when I woke up (but back on now). We didn't get any hail in my area though which is good. Just need to start organising insurance now I guess.......
The worst part was the humidity and heat ironically - no fan made it a shit nights sleep.

Bullcreek
We didnt get anything too bad in Bullcreek but there was some flooding and the park near my house is trashed, a branch came down on some powerlines but western power seems to have cleared that up really quickly. I think we had the power back on by about 3:00 in the morning so well done to western power. Now I just gotta dry my carpet because my window now leaks.

Hope all are well and survived. Just a lot of rain for us and a little water entry. Ran an extension cord over to the neighbours to give them some power late last night (and its still off this morning).
The new domestic airport roof has apparently collapsed too.
Might be a few floating hazards on the water too, what with all the run off.
Cheers Pete

With the front door being closed it resembled a bloody indoor water fall !
Car copped a bit of a pounding from the hail heading down Hepburn Ave from Hillaries..
Totally amazing watching the cloud movements and the chaos heading down the freeway...

shut down
Had to evacuate at work at lakeside coles in joondalup, water pissing thru the roof, airconditioning and running throught all the fridge cases flooding the shop floor, massive clean up. whole center need to be evacutated as ceilings were collapsing in stores and mass flooding thruout the center. Aftre we cleared out all the freaked out customers we sat on the dock watching a toll truck get hammered by the hail. we were right under the storm, It was mad as i opened the back door it was like standing in a wind tunnel as all the air in the store was sucked out by the airpressure outside. As we sat there just after it passed it was a constant stream of sirens from the hospital and fireies headin towards the freeway.
My poor mum was coming back from rotto on the ferry to hillarys as it went right over them. vis was at apparently 10 meters above water! the skipper just cut the motors and had to drift while they got smashed around and hammered by the winds and hail.
Came home to find the gutters overflowed spilling into the roof, flooding the TV room and falling directly onto the flat screen, dvd and playstation GODDAMMIT!

WHAT....!!! What skipper in
WHAT....!!!
What skipper in his right mind cuts his motors and drifts in a storm like that???
correct procedure would be too keep going forward at a slow pace with the bow into the storm / wind. He has Radar, GPS and sounder, so he can easily keep his location plotted and stay facing the storm.
Hope he did not just drift it out!!! that would be shocking for someone with a masters marina ticket etc...
I'd have expected the Ferry to easily have ridden out the storm and only waited to dock when it was safer at Hillaries when the wind died down.

I had to ride home on my motorbike
I hit a lake doing about 60kms didn't realize until it was to late. I couldnt slam on my breaks being on a bike. Water was up over my feet rests, blew my thongs clean off my feet. I had to pull tha bike over at tha other side and walk back barefoot to retrieve my thongs. Maybe I should cab it home next time!!! That was insane. Managed to get home safe even though I was soaked in time to start trying to towel up doors and windows and watch my backyard fence get blown into oblivion. All I could do was fire up tha blender and start making tropical drinks and pretend it wasnt hapnan. Now hungover and have to start tha repair process!!!

We were very
lucky, just a good down pour here in Spearwood, yesterday, heaps of thunder and lightening, saw a few normal size hailstones, the storm water drain next to us was half full, haven't seen any water in it for 14yrs, the 4x4 packed on our front lawn has tide marks up to the rim. As we are at the bottom of a hill, the lady up the road, had a gravel verge, well thats all down our end on the road, just waiting for somebody to come around the bend and do a good skiddy, tried to sweep some away, seems to be sticking like glue to the road.
Hope everybody is safe and your insurance claims are dealt with quickly, Barnet has declared a disaster zone.
