Pilbara barra tips

So I have been going up some of the local Karratha creeks chasing a barra. I haven't even seen one yet. After reading thru some other posts I can't work out what tides are best to get them? Neap/spring/ high/low?  Also do you try to get the livies right up to the edge of the tree or in the deeper hole?

What really was frustating, Last week end I launched at back beach and when I got back to the ramp I notice a French backpacker got a size one off the rocks. Lucky bastid but I guess that fishing.

any tips would be great

livies

Livies off the shallow banks placed into the deep holes.  Tides - low's generally best, but been told recently that there still plenty getting caught on the high.

keep your options open,

keep your options open, livies, lures and SP's all are working. better luck on the low and if you can score a 1m low to a 3.5m high that will give you a low enough hole to sit in but not make it too hard when the tide comes in or out. Some days fire others do not, if you work out which ones are the good ones let us all know. a full day up a creek the other week with 3 others in there with us and only 1 barra, caught twice mind you and we had only 1 hookup.

Hey, Neap tides are all ways

Hey, Neap tides are all ways going to be better as they are easyer to fish and barra are lazy feeders so if you are fishing on the springs tides the best bite will be at the turn when it slows or fishing in some back water. cleaverville fishes best on bigger tides as the main channel at the front holds heaps of water and it is full of rock bars for barra to hide behind. on neaps airport and feilds havent failed. Live bait is no drama to get up on the flats if its around! if you cant see any dont bother and run lures till they turn up. the bait comes with the tide and at high is all ways hard to get and will be right up the feeders, if you are fishing with baits get heaps when the tide is low. follow the bait when you are fishing too up the creek at high and out near the mouth at low. nights are warm now so you will pull some big barra on big mullet then also. (if you think the mullet is too big for bait put a 9/0 in it and put it out) Livies arnt allways best if their is heaps of bait around as lures or plastics sometimes fire them up more. good luck

Looks like it may be alright this weekend. with the neapish tides.

Troll lures during the day,

Troll lures during the day, kick back and drown mullet (and beer) at night!

If you are in a small creek / hole, repeatedly trolling through the same spot will spook the fish - especially if you have a rattly old 2 smoke.  Get out and walk the banks and flick lures.  This will cover more angles.
