Ply Flooring

Has any one had carpeted ply flooring replaced?
There are three sheets in my boat, one has a section thats rotted
I assume i will have to replace the whole sheet - about 2100 X 900
Then the carpet wont match of course but never mind
Any one know an aproximate cost?
Edit - i would need some one to it all for me

Boat type?
Is it an Ally boat with ply/carpeted floors? Or something else?
I pulled the ply floors out of my project boat recently but they were glassed in!
What area are you located?

Boat sole
my 18 month old Australian Power Cat already has soft spots.
When I complained Stessl said " the timber only has a 12 month warranty"
i admit that Stessl offered to go 50/50 with replacing the entire floor.
IF I deliver the boat to Geelong.
I live in Kalbarri!
looking at doing an entire replace myself, but I don't reckon I will go with carpet this time.

Can you confirm a few things
Can you confirm a few things for me - I'm assuming you bought it new, have you or anyone else made any mods that drilled into or otherwise altered the floor or is it still as purchased??
- they might have a 12 month warranty on the flooring but I'd guess the average person would expect a boat they bought to still be sound for at least 2 years minimum (a wooden floor should last at least 5 years if done correctly if not more)
Given that I'd be looking into a statutory warranty claim - this is what you are entitled to by law.
as an example I had a new radiator put in my car - it came with a 12 month 20,000km warranty - it failed after 38,000km and 18 months - I had it replaced under stat warranty given it cost me $500 (wasn't a cheapy) and you don't expect to have to replace your radiator every 18 months
for the same reason when I by a top end Sony/Samsung etc. LCD TV I don't pay for the extended 3 year warranty - given I'd be entitled to it by law regardless of the 12 month manufacterers warranty

What will you use other than carpet?

Not too hard to do. Any boat
Not too hard to do. Any boat shop would be able to handle it. Just unscrew floor. Use old floor to mark out on the new floor. Glue carpet down and replace floor. Just regular maintenance for the pressed tinny guys.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

I pulled the floor up in our
I pulled the floor up in our 5.2 ali a number of years back and replaced it all with new Ply and carpet. I coated it in a waterproof sealer before laying the marine carpet on top for added protection.
Couple of days work for 5.2, but quite straight forward. e.g. 12mm structural 2.4 x 1.2m are about $45, looking at 3 from your description, if you replace them all that is..., plus cost of new carpet at say $40/lm (roll is 2m wide, 3lm of it should cover you, again at a full replacement). Tin or two of waterproof sealer, stainless fixings to secure it...
Our floor is still going strong, obvious wear and tear so the capret has lost it's sponginess, but other than that its still got years in it. No sign of rotten panels yet.
Be happy to knock it out for ya if you end up wanting it done, jobless atm so looking for things to do.

Not a hard job
But you will have to do it more often if you try to save on the cost of the ply. I bought a 6 m pressed tinny with ply floor some years ago, some was soft. I replaced all the soft plus redid a section with floor frames to bring the deck level all the way. The new section was hardest, just getting the fit exact because I didn't have a template. The existing piece gave me a template for that area, so it wasn't hard.
I used marine ply for the job. if you use structural ply, it will not last as long. The marine ply was still good as new 5 years later when I sold it. No matter what kind you use, seal it both sides before you glue on the carpet and fit it. I only used oil-based primer--I have used this before and always had a good run with the panels thus treated. There may be some super duper marine sealant out there available at great cost, but the oil-based stuff has worked for me. YMMV.
Downside of fitting carpet is, of course , that it is fairly high maintenance if you want the boat to not start stinking. I wouldn't have carpet, loose or fitted, any more. You need to be thoroughly scrubbing it all the time, with detergent, and wet-vaccing it at least once a year if you want to keep the smells away. And it catches hooks.

Thanks All
Jippy and Anyfishwilldo thanks for the offers, i may end up asking for help
One of the seats wont come out and that is preventing me from pulling the floor out on that side
Will try to sort that problem out - then decide what to do with the floor
Bloody boats - theres always something
I have a mind to sell it and buy a new one next year but it has a lot of emotional attachement
Very sad story that i wont trouble you with or youll all be in tears
Thanks again for the offers- i may be in touch

Good info guys!
not hijacking the thread, but lots of good feedback here for the OP.( and me)
as for mine ( The Mako Cat) I purchased a year old rig with small hours on it, I have tried goin back through the Townsville dealer who said he would get onto APC, but now I have moved back to Kalbarri, it seems I have ceased to exist.
i just can't be fagged going through all the BS. To claim .
problem is it's a great little rig, so I don't want to rubbish that, but for a $50k setup there are a number of small niggles, you don't notice them when you are in " Gotta have it" mode! The build should have been better .
I won't use carpet again for all the reasons stated by 850, plus, the stuff really collects sand as well, carpet looks good, but it is a pain in the arse.
And I am working my way through every corroding Stainless/ ally point, where bubbles are already evident.
