Polarised Bifocals

Hey,

I'm hoping to find some cheap polarised bifocals for fishing out on the boat, reading sounder, chartplotter etc without having to swap to my reading glasses. I'm after about 2x magnification.

Has anyone had any experiences?

Many thanks,

My sunnies are polarised multifocal .....have had both bronze and dark grey but prefer the latter.

Done some studies into polarised glasses a few years ago from a safety perspective for workers offshore. Found they were only more effective than normal sunglasses for a couple of hrs in the daylight, has to do with sun position and reflecting off water. Manufacturer suggested best time was bewteen 1100 & 1300 hrs. I prefer to use bronze coloured sunglasses after that.

And, as you referred to bi-focals, assume you are? They are not cheap. I had some polarised multi focals made up and I actually supplied the frames from an old pair of prescription safeties, but still pricey. They also have the negative of needing a minimum level of tint to actually work. I find this a negative as you can't wear them very early, and also get too dark very late afternoon. Need to take my regular prescriptions with me for those times.

Couple options

Cheapest option I’ve tried - bought a pair of Rapala brand “ Fitover Polarized Photochromic” glasses. They have a very large lens so they fit over your existing glasses. Certainly no fashion statement but does the job. PM me if you want me to try and track down who I bought them online from.

I then decided to get a prescription pair of sunglasses as wanted them for more general use than just out in the boat. Got them off Specsavers at a time they were having free polarising which is a promotion they’ve had coming in to summer last couple of years. Brand was “Super Dry” and quite well priced
