Polycraft boats? any info?

Hi all,

Been thinking about upgrading the tinnie for a while now and the wife is starting to warm to the idea. Hadn't contemplated buying one much before but I saw a nice Polycraft down south not long ago. Have done a bit of looking around on the net and something that matches the description below would be up my alley.

spend up to $15,000

length = approx 4.5m or so

type = centre console

For that sort of money should be able to buy something about 5 years old with a 4 stoke engine. Just wondering if anyone on here has a Polycraft themselves or been out on one from time to time? If so any info you could share would be great.

Always good to get the opinions of others prior to going to do some serious shopping!

many thanks for any info provided

Scano

Well....if it isnt "scandalous" Scano!! lol

Yeh Ive been in a couple, mainly the 4.5m S/C and tiller steers. Heavy for their size but very stable boat and plenty of flotation. They do require a bigger outboard than the equivalent tinny.

They ride pretty well in choppy water, not much jarring at all. Probably better than some equivalent glass boats.

Not much heavier at all

Wed, 2010-06-23 19:33

i had this argument with a mate and it got down to bets and weigh bridges.I said it would be 20 kg either way he said i would be over 50 kg heavier.I was just over 22 kg heavier.What you need to remember is you dont require all the re-enforcing and timber flooring in a poly that you need in a tinny.The other thing is i could stand 4 guys an electric motor and a deep cycle battery in the front two feet of my 4.5 poly and still motor around and prawn and crab.Try that in a tinny.The other thing is a tinny only floats because it is trying to sink where as a poly is always trying to float.You can take any part of and it will float.My 4.5 with a 40 2 stroke yammie on a regular basis used to bet a mates 475 trailcraft with a 75 merc back to the ramp.He often had three up and i normally only two but in the rough stuff he would only push until he was uncomfortable and that is well before you get knocked about in a poly.If i didnt want a family friendly boat i would have a 599 c console all day long.

Hey Scano... How's it hangin? How's Malc? Haven't seen you boys in ages. Need to give Malc a buzz to see if he's keen for a fishing session.
