Polycraft tow in

Towed a 4.8 Polycraft back in from over the islands today with the keel lifting off at the base of the bow.
They found a leak as they arrived at Disaster Cove on Dorre island, they did makeshift repair to seal that one then found the bigger one on the keel.
We tried having them come back under their own power but had to off load all the gear after a few miles when the bilge pump couldn't cope and they started getting wet feet. Once the boat was up on the plane with the two on board down the back it was a straight forward tow in except when we had to slow down to come alongside the jetty.

The owner had spoken to Polycraft in QLD and they said to put the boat on a truck to QLD and they will replace it with a new boat. Raises a few doubts in my mind about them as the conditions were ideal, nothing above 1/2 a metre and below 10 knots.

Very strange, those ploys are a tough as nails, never heard of he 4.8 splitting, the 5.99 had some thickness issues in the early models. Good to see Polycraft coming to the party

quintrex had a m8 go pick  up a new hull and paid for the motor install on a mates tinnie that started getting pin holes all over after 6 months

they even let him keep the old hull- which he painted out with plastic paint and is still good 3 years later

Considering Polycrafts after

Considering Polycrafts after sales service record just getting a replacement hull is better than what some people have had mate. Insurance will cover the transport in the end. i know a few people who have dodgy hulls that PC won't touch!

Too small

I would have thought that going 50 km offshore in a 4.8m boat would be pushing it a bit from a safety point of view any way.

And some people wonder why they get into trouble....

Forecast

Sun, 2013-08-25 17:30

The forecast was spot on, nothing above 10 knots for the time they picked to head over.
My boat is only 5 metres and I go if the forecast is good but then again, mine is all 4mm plate ali not plastic.
