Pop pop pop..tailor!! and today a bigger one :) and now a couple of mulloway:)
I've been hoping to get a Tailor on the lure since I arrived in Kalbarri a few days ago. First session a decent one took an x rap, jumped and spat the hooks! second session nothing but third session a tailor at last took the popper! Not the world's biggest fish but very welcome all the same! hopefully the beast will come in the next few days!!
all the best, Scott
Went out earlier and had a great session on the lures. Four good sized tailor nailed the popper and i managed to land one of these. The other three somehow managed to throw the hook after i thought they were done! Ha ha never know until they are on dry land. Then got a lovely fish of 74 cm on a shallow diving minnow. I saw some small herring or something similar jumping for their lives so threw the minnow in the middle of the commotion and BANG! big Tailor!

Looks like your at red bluff
Looks like your at red bluff or somewhere south. See if you can get to the other side of the river mouth (boat hire takes you accross) and fish back towards shark fin rock. Thats where the bigguns are.

Hi guys,
yeah had a couple of sessions across the river. last one it was low tide and nothing was happening...probably as the water was coloured from the river water!
And yeah Ben it is one of my favourite lures! going to have a little go later with the lures at night! done a bit of bait fishing and apart from getting bitten off by a shark just had a q of tiddlers lining up. Seems liveys or lure are the way to go for bigger fish at night unless you like to rebait every 10 seconds!
All the best, scott

Now that's a nice tailor mate, Shark Bay might offer some monsters if you get the chance to flick a lure or two .

Went out this evening with the hope of a Mulloway on the lure. Things looked good with the moon out and the tide rising...I threw lures for 2.5 hours and not a sniff from the Mulloway but i did manage a couple of cracking tailor. The one in the photo gave me a real good run around!!

Gidday Scott,If the waters
Gidday Scott,
If the waters dirty at the mouth like you said in an earlier post, then Oyster Reef is a great spot for the mulla's!. If its not happening on the lures, try a fillet of fresh tailor. This will do the trick most evenings if they're around.
Good luck, and great photo's of the tailor.
I just love Exmouth: Its a quaint little drinking town with a fishing problem!

Hi Browny and any one else
Hi Browny and any one else with some good advice..
Any ideas about the bait fishing...I tried a few days ago with some nice bits of the maccie I caught. All nicely prepared with ghost cotton etc so to me they looked like a pretty good bait for a mulloway..Problem was the bait robbers. As soon as the bait hit the bottom it was stripped within minutes. Any thing i can do..got tailor fillets from last night and might buy some mullet..then just fish through the little ones and maybe also try get livebait?

Hey Scott,If the weather is
Hey Scott,
If the weather is rough and there is a solid wind try fishing the drop off on the northern side of the river pretty much at the spot the boat hire drops you off. . Send out a fresh half bait (tailor/mullet) or even a small whole bait(herring/Whiting). The whole baits will last slightly longer than the fillets or strips.
If it is calm and your keen walk maybe a 1 km up from oyster reef and set up big baits at night. There is also another spot approximately 4/5 kms north. To fishh these spots will mean staying overnight on the northern side but if you anything like me it is all worth it to nail that big surf mulloway.
How long are you staying in Kalbarri? ill be up on the 7/7 for 4 days and if your there we could meet up for a fish if you want.

Cheers Jeremy,
Like you i'm pretty keen to get a decent Mulloway so will head north for tomorrow night. I would really like to get one in the surf as that surely has to be the best way to get a biggie!
Its pretty rough at the moment but maybe this brings the bigger fish closer to the beach? guess the fishing might be a little less comfortable than calm weather but hey ho!
I reckon i'll leave in the next couple of days after a good try for a Mulloway. Was going to leave today as the weather is good for cycling, but know i will regret leaving without landing a big one! so shame we can't meet up!

If the weather is bad, ie
If the weather is bad, ie winds from s/w. I find wittecarra beach is not to bad as its protected by red bluff. Landed heaps of mulloway from that beach. The spot 1km north of the mouth is called frustrations. also pulled heaps of mulloway from there. There is a big rock platform sticking out of the ocean. when the swell is down you can fish from the top of it but I have had most of my luck from the area just south of it. Depending on time of year it can be beach or rock, there are heaps of sharks here as well, pretty much guaranteed if you burley. Otherwise as said you can fish on the other side of the river back into the river. The best way to avoid the pickers is to use live bait or fish well after dark.

Nice work mate, did you get them on the lure?
Dan
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Cheers guys! thanks for the comments..great to eventually land a decent mulloway! I entered them in the monthly kalbarri comp and won a 50 dollar voucher for the local fishing shop! got them on tailor fillet/mulie cocktails. I definately have to come back and try get a monster from the beach..there were a couple of big ones caught from the boats at the comp which really got me going! must be great from the beach..
thanks everyone for the advice:)
