Hello all. I'm new to FW so hope I've posted this correctly.

I'm up in Port Hedland and curious to know if the Fingermark Snapper (Golden Snapper) can be caught in the local waters?

I've headed up to 45km straight out and done okay with Coral Trout, Blue Lined Emporer and even Reds but the Reds only come up about 45-50cm (No big Reds yet). Other spots I’ve tried include around the channel markers, dragon head, mackie mountain, Cornelisse Shoal and Coxan Shoal.

So without stealing anyone’s specific spot, if anyone knows where to point me I’d appreciate it.

Cheers, Myk

Do catch the odd one there

Do catch the odd one there but not in numbers worth specifically targeting them.  My biggest Hedland fingermark was jigged off 24 marker. We get them in the 60m area off Karratha so likely patches of them seeping off Hedland too. 60m is about 120km though...

Cheers for that. I have heard i need to travel to 50m to start catching anything really decent. So that's about 90 - 100km out. Might have to wait for a glass-off.

Reds move in closer over

Reds move in closer over winter. Some of my best spots are in 17m up that way.

Any of the mounds on the North side of the “Gates”. So basically the northern side of where the ships anchor. Always hit and miss tho.
