Professional craypots and sinkers

I have personally been on the wrong end of this and it is DEADLY.
Usually when winching a pot, you will grapple the floats and pull them on, put rope in winch then put winch on full speed, throw floats on deck by winch for hand coiling and bend over to pat ropes in coiler bin and sort floats.
Thats when the sinker comes up and swings a wide arc and ruins your day...

Yes people, please take notice
If you like to fish on top of pro pots, and you snag the rope and snap off, please do as the poster says--tie something between the floats to let them know things are amiss--plastic ice bag, old lump of rag, anything that is out of place. Or, if you don't have anything, tie a big loop between two of the floats to shorten it up.You don't need to leave a note, just some indication. I've personally had paternoster rigs come over, sinkers and hooks flying, luckily no-one was hurt.

Seen the Consequences
Have seen the consequences. Big egg on the head. Lucky not to split him open.
As others have said, lots of gear coming around at high speed. Bit of rag, knot in the floats, anything that indicates you're trying to send a message to the deckies to take it easy and keep an eye on that pot.

Is the yellow 'Caution' tape
Is the yellow 'Caution' tape from bunnings suitable? Pretty cheap at $9 for 100m!
So far I've been lucky and have been able to get my plastics back due to crushed barbs but want something in the boat in case i'm not so fortunate.

Im sure your probably joking, but anyone who reckons they might need even one tenth of a 100M roll probably needs to assess their fishing technique!
Seriously, we have all hunted around some craypots, and Ive snagged on them unexpectedly.
But a knot between the floats is perfectly sufficient to notify the owner

or an old plastic bag, yer mates' jocks, anything out of the ordinary.

Pretty sure been coverd
Many times . Knot was new to me . I always tie fishing Rag any colour . Pros know. Seen few bad ones many years ago . Hooks and leads .

Cable ties
wrap a few cable ties around the rope , they wont fall off in the mean time until the pro pulls his pots maybe two days later, and their easy to carry a small pack in the boat

Not sure if cable ties are good enough, on a rough day they could be missed.
I stress, the easiest, quickest and most unavoidably noticable to a decky (I did it for years myself) is to just double up the rope between the floats and tie a half hitch.
Same as what they do for a snagged pot.
