Proposed extended WA fishing trip.
G'day All you fanatics,
Now retired (well almost).
Doing a bit of planning. Handed boat to son as I am not prepared to tow around Australia.
Yair, call me a whimp, but I want to travel light and not work hard, except for the fishing.
Will motor across to the bottom end of WA and work my way up the coast to Darwin.
Where would you knowledgable fishos start and what are the recomended spots that are must do's?
Any links, fishing mags that you read over in the west etc. Just point me & I'll check'em out.
To give you a bit of a guide I fish ultra light (4-6 lb ).
Rods in the mid range 10-15 and 20 - 30 lb.
Have an old Snyder Glas 13 ft surf rod with 20 lb nylon.
A Phenix blank spiral wrapped 30 - 80 lb rated Heavy with Fast action. I only use 50 lb line. No need to go bigger as I wouldn't be able to handle
whatever got on the end of the line.
By the time I get to go, I'll have a jigging and popper rod for up north.
Happy to fish off the beach, rocks and charter boats for some bigger fish.
Any info provided would be appreciated.
Cheers
Russell

hello Russell,currently on
hello Russell,
currently on the end of a unplaned week long trip from Darwin to Exmouth,,,,,,
I would have to say the place is a must visit,,,,,, I mainly come down for the GTs but have done the billfish and jigging deep and shallow scene that is available here.
the lanbased would suit the light line thing but me i just keep plugging away with the big gear, note I would catch more fish if I dropped it down to the lighter stuff.
the guided services that operate here are of top quality, my choice being Eddy of Peak Sports Fishing ( he has a FB page thats updated regularly) they pretty much cater for everything , fly fishing, light line, heavy tackle, jigging and popping.
Point samson is also a good spot for landbased fishing, mainly makeral and queen fish off the beach near the caravan park,
yet to do any offshore stuff there, not as well set up for the none boat traveling angler
I try and plan my trips to include a full/new moon phase weather building or falling.
the western angler makes for a good read and fish wrecked is a great source for info and the fishing WA TV show.
cheers syd

Thanks Syd
Thanks Syd.
Most helpful info.
You obviuosly are having a good time.
You make my trip that much better when someone that
has gone before you and has learnt when, where etc and
they pass that information on to those that follow.
Thanks again and you continue to enjoy.

A must do is a night fish
A must do is a night fish off the end of the 1 Mile Jetty in Carnarvon.
must use a large handline with a few crushed empties in the gutz so you hear it spin when big mulloway grabs it!

Thank you Dooma and DTrain
Hey, thanks fellas.
Darn good advice.
I just love how most recreational fishers love to share.
Mind you some of the names I am encountering seem a bit of a mouthful.
Thanks again.
