Queens on lures
Submitted by Liquidtension on Wed, 2012-02-29 09:50
Hey Guys,
Going up to exxy soon prob for 2weeks somewhere between July & August!
but im trying to get myself setup ready for action now!
I have a 6kg & 10kg spin stik in the works at the moment and was thinking about various
lures which might be on the menu for some exmouth queenfish & smaller trevs
I was looking at the alot of surface lures & poppers etc
I have found a couple which I think might be a go-er
Cultiva Tango Dancers
OSP Bent minnows
Rapala X Walk etc
But I would like to hear what else has worked for people! Im not really big on soft plastic fishing but willing to give it a go if you have any tips!
cheers!

+1 for for the twisties, but
+1 for for the twisties, but upgrade the hooks to an inline single. I had 3 of those stock trebles straightened out in 1 day a couple weeks back. The queenies were ok, but the bluespot trevs were munching them up
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Daiwa r50 shoreline shiners
Daiwa r50 shoreline shiners in chartreuse iwashi and rapala max rap 13's in pearl/purple head. You will need a few of them on 10kg as you will get smoked quite a few times by spanglies. Im still losing them on 40lb braid...

Halco Rooster popper in the
Halco Rooster popper in the smallest and second larger size depending on your quarry that day. I notice the black gold colour works best at dusk.
Yozuri Surface Cruiser in 1Oz size, blue stripe with white belly. Toss the lure as far as you can and crank back as fast as possible. the splashing and thrashing excites the queenies & trevallies. You can also twitch the lure to give it a zig-zack walk the dog action. As the lure sits almost 90 degrees to water surface, you can twitch and work it really slowly.
Surface minnows in the larger size ie5 -6inches. eg. Crystal Minnow.
Maria Miss Carna for walking the dog.
My 2cents.

I found the paddle tails in a green or gold colour worked ok for the big queenies .. but the most fun I had was live baiting a small hardy head on the out side of the bait schools :-)

I'm with Sam 100% - Maria Bullchops and Bluecodes.
Last year I bought Sebille Stick Shads which also worked a treat.

Storm chug bugs, 4 bucks each
Storm chug bugs, 4 bucks each landed here from ebay, buy 10 cos youll loose most of em and it wont hurt the pocket and they work mint trolling as well as cast and retrieve and theres nuthin beta than seein the surface strikes. The 08 size is good for light gear 1-3kg and the 11 size will suit a 3-5kg setup. And they float.
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

I had great success on those queens using Ima Sasuke 120 and Komomo 120. Landed generous amount of Queens and many other species...sharks included.
The only downside to these lures are they need 3 trebles. Other then that it was the hottest lure for in Exmouth.
The thing I loved about them is that they are sub surface lure.

The poppers worked a treat
The poppers worked a treat last time i went up to exy, so much fun as well, but plastics worked just as good, cast the plastic out as far as you can, wind in quickly and watch iit get smashed, if none of these are working change spots.
