Question for the Exmouth boys
For next years April Exmouth trip we were thinking of trying something a bit different. Hoping to get across the gulf again but this time stay overnight . This would give more time to explore the creeks etc . Was thinking of camping on one of the islands like Y Island or Somerville Island for the night as the boat is a bit small for three blokes. Either that or somewhere on the mainland by the creeks. Fishing for sport - catch and release - and a break from chasing billies.
Is it safe to leave the car in the carpark at the Exmouth marina overnight ?
Is it OK (permitted) to camp on one of the islands overnight ?
If we stay on the mainland near one of the creeks , are the sandflies going to eat us alive ? Also the islands for that matter ?
Any feedback would be great

are great fun on the high tide.You can then fish the little bommies and the flats on the gulf side as the tide gets lower.The car at the marina will be fine from my experience in the past.Just dont leave any valuables in it now it is not as it used to be.I once left a wallet on the dash of my car at tantas and swam out to the big cat and didnt come back for 24 hrs.All the locals leave the keys in the car sometimes.Sandflys and mozzies will be an issue that requires tropical strength bushmans.The old muddies cop it a bit now but you would always get a good feed a couple of years back.Good trip to do though.
So tell me have you got your info from years on the water or hours on the internet?

Have unrolled a swag on alot of the islands
in the gulf.What boat and what range have you got?
So tell me have you got your info from years on the water or hours on the internet?

not taking my boat. will be taking a 610 quintrex ocean sport.Hardly draws any water so is good for creeks and skinny water. Wouldn't get my boat up the creeks . the range will be about 200klms. Can always take more fuel . As mentioned before we have been the other side of the gulf before but it was only last year that we tried one of the the creeks and didnt catch a thing. Dont know which one it was but it looked great and we only tried at the mouth. Didnt have time to venture up it. Hopefully we will have better luck given more time to explore.

was over there a few weeks ago heaps of muddies some nice jacks cod n big bream 4 ta light tackle. sand flies were a pain. gotta watch some of those creeks some r way to shallow.

If you want to camp on the land over there you will need permission from the pastoral owner, chances of being caught are slim to nil but its better to do the right thing. Some of the islands are A class nature reserves which means no camping, I will try and find the list and post it up of which are fine and which aren't.
As for sandies, the windier it is the less you will be annoyed by them, but the more annoyed you get by the wind! Just take a swag with a mossie/sand fly net built in, or get one sewn in.
As for security, you shouldn't have a problem - we usually only get one run of theft during the year for a day or two and things go back to normal. (nothing too serious either really) I'd go as far as saying you would be eexxxtremely unlucky if something did happen.

Pretty sure Tent Island
is a class A reserve, or a nature reserve, may be wrong.
I'll be there in April yak fishing the Gulf for a week again, frikken amazing place.

Agree , it is better to do the right thing. Helps everyone in the long run . Who is and How do I contact the pastoral owner ?
May not even get over there depending on weather , but would be good to tick all the boxes in the hope it will happen.
