quick S bend report

Hi everyone

I went up to S bend for the long weekend which for me started on thurs night after work I left and headed up the new fantastic coastal road.  I called in to a mates house in Dongara for a few beers and crashed on his couch moving on to S bend the next morning.  After setting up my tent etc at the caravan park I headed down to Lucy's to fish the 11am high tide and then through to the late evening high tide.  The gutter looked as great as I have seen it but as i suspected full moon shuts down the tailor action.  I caught a few herring on dusk and used them as live bait.  One herring got absolutely smashed in half and my bottom snelled 6/0 gamakatsu octopus circle got bent in half!!!!!! so dissapointingly that was the first day over.  the next morning i fished slips hoping there would be some action there, some guys next to me got a few herring and a guy from my fishing club got a 20 kilo sambo not bad off the beach.  Fellow Fishwrecked member Johnray rocked up mid morning so i took him on the S bend tour before the fishing comp kicked off at midday.  Once again we based ourselves at Lucy's for merely a few herring and some guys next to us got a couple of undersize mulloway then a nice 6-8kilo version, saw a guy get one of the biggest buffies I have seen at 7.5 kilo.  The following day we fished south, past the surf beaches where the gutters start for 1 shovelnose although i had a large tailor strike and miss at a whole herring i was winding back in on a paternoster rig.

The last morning of the comp we elected for a sleep in as did most of the crew but the guys who had a crack managed a few tailor to 1 kilo and some wirah cod which goes to show with the moon phasing out there would start to be a bit more Tailor action.

I have been a bit spoilt with my last couple of trips to the area with the tailor action being hot.  I have still not landed a mulloway either I had a whole herring/scaley or fillet in the water for most of the time I was fishing so the quest for a LB mulloway goes on.

Either way fish or no fish great to be out on the beaches in a top location

cheers

Rig

I was up at port Gregory with Fremantle fishing club. Not much else was weighed in either. I got a mulloway 7.8kg filled and gutted and me other mate got a 10kg one. Other than that I got 6 tailor to 1.5 kg each. So looks like a quiet weekend all round.

Nice Report!

I'm off up there on a lone sojurne on Saturday morning until Monday. The weather looks like it will be testing but a good southerly is great there to stir up the Tailor. How were the beaches to the south Rig?

Need to set up a rod holder on the Disco

Thu, 2010-09-30 21:32

I have a feeling that poppers and slices will work really well but that means no live baiting unless I need to lose a whole set of gear (which I have in the past Frown). I'm getting a little excited right now. Come on Saturday! Oh, and BTW.. Go Saints!
