Quiet day out from Mandurah yesterday
Submitted by kirky79 on Wed, 2016-02-10 12:01
Wondering how anyone else who went out yesterday fared. Was a beautiful day on the water, a decent swell was running but we found the fishing pretty quiet, bar a 20 minute period around mid morning. Got a few nice size Black Bums, a nice Baldy and our first Wobby. There were heaps of boats out yesterday too. How did everyone else fare?
Cheers

Seriously quiet
Went out very early from Ocean Reef then made my way down to Rottnest around 9am. Lots of wrasse around rottnest, a few S/Bakers and managed a small bronzie. Caught a Dhui at 49cm inside 3 mile near Ocean Reef on the way back at around 4pm. Very dissapointing day especially with the ocean as magic as it was yesterday.

Absolute pristine day, headed
Absolute pristine day, headed out of Woodies under the Island Bridge and then about 30km due West. Did I say it was a beautiful day because nothing much else was. Couple of undersize Dhui's a couple of Sergeant Bakers and apart from burning a fair bit of fuel the sum total of the day.

Lots of Tuna
Left Point Peron very early, tried bottom fishing along southern side of Rottnest but very quiet so tried 3 southern most FADS hoping for dollies -still very quiet. In between FADS trolled through where birds were working and each time didn't take long for tuna to stike. Noticed big schools under boat as playing the fish. Sashimi and tuna steaks for tea and some fillets for the freezer. Few bottom drops on way home from FADS but still quiet.

Same, same
Tables said major bite time at 0630 and it was, for all of fifteen minutes, good baldie, sambo, queen snapper and dropped a good fish almost certainly a dhu, then virtually nothing .....gave it away at 11.30 and motored back at 27 knots in glassy conditions ......figure no drift no fish only drift was from the N to S current

That current
was quite strong eh. At one stage we had been drifting around almost the same spot for about 1/2 an hour The current would take us one way then the wind would puff us back the other. The track on the GPS was all over the shot. Didn't need the sea anchor all day.
