Giant trevally = GT. Mostly Golden Trevor's are refered to as Goldies or as I call them Mick Jagger's (because of their rubbery lips)

Guys what is all this PE

Fri, 2013-11-01 09:39

Guys what is all this PE stuff? How does it relate to what weight gear your using? Its just diametre isnt it?

 it does relate to diameter

Fri, 2013-11-01 09:59

it does relate to diameter but usually it just translates to the x10 lb rating.

so pe8 is typically 80lb and has a universal "pe" diameter.

dont read into it too much as its confusing and has exceptions, such as pe3 that breaks at 24kg

Oh No

The PE stuff again!!!

I have been fishing for years and still dont fully understand PE, despite studying it (scientific minded so had to find out). But as new age has explained it is "MUCH" easier to do the X10lb than to worry about anything further.

It is a Japanese invention all to do with the diameter of the line. However some better braids or superlines try and increase the strenght and decrease the diameter, ie as he mentioned above. It does get very techno then trying to match PE to break strenght.

It is not realy an issue for the standard fisho, but in Competition it is, and then it does matter what the Breaking strain is, irrespective off the PE rating. USA lines still mostly rated in lb, Japanese lines mostly rated as PE.

Its a little trendy to talk about catching a fish on PE something, compared with say 10lb line.

Just love the silver in this one. Did you cross many off the darker "Papuan" GT up at Rowely's?

Yeah the pe thing sounds like

Fri, 2013-11-01 14:08

Yeah the pe thing sounds like a load of wank. Every spool of line tells you the exact diameter of that specific line anyway, and as you mention the x10 rule has its exeptions. Problem is rods are starting to use pe ratings instead of line weight class.

Laughable. dont know why we would even mention it instead of weight class. Naylor 1 could have caught that on 130 for all I know... certainly no implying you did mate!:)

yep there is definitely no

Fri, 2013-11-01 14:23

yep there is definitely no excuse for putting PE rating on a rod apart from what crasny1 said (the latest craze) The problem is they are now putting just the PE rating on the rod without the class in weight.

It probably gives the rod makers a good excuse for rejecting claims for breakages. What happens if I broke my rod on a fish (PE4X10=40lb) when my braid is PE4/60lb). I'm surprised the Australian rod industry bought into all this PE crap.

Nah crasny no dark ones, tho

Fri, 2013-11-01 19:02

Nah crasny no dark ones, tho they are there apparently. The pe8 braid I was using has a breaking strain of about 100#,the japs have always use pe ratings on all there line and I guess with more people using it these days they class there rods to suit the pe rating of the line .

The aswb lures are awesome, you won't find a better lure for the price , made locally as well
