Its all about budget. If your new to Alveys, consider a rod which isn't too stiff in the line class your after. Your reel size and fishing habits would help people's advice.
I use a 13ft Snyderglass i think its an 8 wrap. with a deep spool alvey use it for anything big of the beaches. Its heavy so it usually sits in a rod holder with a small fluro stick in the top eye.
Are having to do a special run as all their "at hand" stock have run out and retailers are asking for more stock than Alvey had parts for, good on em people are getting these reels for there significance in Australian fishing history.
Thanks for leaving your thoughts. Been fishing low mounts for a few years, joining the alvey dark side now as I wanted a reel to handle the sea spray and other abuse I dont want to put my other reels through. Plus supporting a local product and all. The plan was to pair it up with a fibreglass rod to chase snapper from the rocks. If that goes well I might add another surf rod to the collection too.
I'll go and have a look in Balcatta Getaway over the weekend if I get a chance.

As much as it pains me..... the best range of rods I have seen to suit alveys are at bcf. Good luck getting good advice on choosing one though.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?
