Red Throat Emperor

G'day
A bag from a couple weeks ago. We have been catching 10 + red throat emps everytime we go out now. Most of them are 35-45cm with a couple coming in slightly bigger. It is a shame that they count towards your demersal bag, but a really tasty fish to eat regardless. Anyone else catching heaps of these guys? I'm surprised that the size of them is generally quite good (most towards to 45cm mark), and they actually put up a spirited fight early on.
Not an amazing bag size wise, but a really good one on the tooth. Pink snapper was no giant by any means at ~55.

Yeh mate,
We've been getting a few everytime we head out, but nothing notable big, so been sending back on their way
A bad day fishing is better than a good day working!

At least they are getting bigger
Started getting the red throats a couple of years ago, used to smash all our baits....really annoying as they were around 25 cms. Last year found that they were a little bigger and some were sized. This year we've kept a couple around 40 cms on a bad day. I reckon they are very good on the chew.
Dont reckon they are a shame that they count to the bag limit. Few times they were a saviour on a tough day when the skipper won't give up trying to get everyone on the boat a feed:)

I meant that it is a shame as
I meant that it is a shame as my spot is quite far out, and I could bag out on them in one drift. A long way to go for 2x ~ 40cm fish. I agree with you, that they can be a god send on an otherwise quiet day.

Yup - similar area off Mandurah
But travelling 27nm out for two redthroats is questionable but on a quiet day they are still welcome
