Squid Success Dunsborough
Got down to Dunsborough last week and managed to get out in the dinghy with the squid jigs, pretty much the first time I've given squiding a full blown effort. Lucky me cos it paid off! Was drifting very close into shore and got a lot of squid on a variety of colours. We managed to get a cuttlefish on the last day but we put it back because we didn't know how to clean them and as we were leaving that day we didn't really have enough time to fiddle around figuring out how to do it (how do they taste compared to squid??). As it was the first time I had caught squid it was the first time we had to clean them and by the last day we got it down to roughly 3 minutes a squid for it to be entirely cleaned and ready for cooking. All the videos on youtube showed it to be much easier than it actually was (as in how easily the 'quill' was coming out and also being able to hold onto the hood easily, we found it extremely slimey haha). Bu we have a nice few feeds left in the freezer for the weeks to come!!!!

Nice haul
Great catch guys, looks like you have plenty for bait and heaps enough for a good feed too. you can also clean them in the scaling bag, does a pretty good job with only a little left to do.

scale bag
the only down side was that I should have taken off the attack tentacles first as they are pretty delicate.

Looks good
Okay I think I'll definetly be buying the squidezy haha but all of the videos I've watched so far make it all look a lot easier so I might wait till someone gives it a proper review! I can't wait to get back down to Duns and get some more (if they are still there). Oh and so what do people think of cuttlefish??

I usually clean squid on the beach.
Pull the head and flaps off
Cut down one side of the tube and pull the bone / guts out
grab a hand full of sand and rub off the slime / skin.
Takes about 2 minutes max.
I recently bought a scaling bag. This cuts outs the need to rub off the slime / skin
