Redfin perch rules

Was watching an episode of Ifish earlier. They caught a Redfin perch in southwest WA and released it. I thought it was against fisheries regulations to release Redfin?

Spoken to Fisheries Officers
Spoken to Fisheries Officers I have encountered at Pemberton about this when Trout Fishing.
From what they have told me there is no actual law stating that you HAVE to kill Redfin Perch if you catch them. Same with Koi, Carp and Goldfish. So hence you cant be fined.
It is just recommended and asked that as they are an aggressive invasive species that they shouldn't be returned to the water.
http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/documents/biosecurity/introduced-pests-guide-freshwater.pdf
"Please keep ALL redfin you catch
and don’t release them into our
waterways or dams."
Read Page 6 'Important Notes'
Transporting them alive other hand could get you a fine.
"It is illegal in WA to be in possession of any noxious fish, keep, breed,
hatch or culture it, consign or convey it, put it into a container or
receptacle in which it might remain alive, or release it into any waters."
I always keep the ones I catch anyway(big ones taste great) and it is the best thing to do. But if you choose to release them back into where you caught them from you aren't breaking any law apparently.
Unless someone can find the actual Law stating that you must Kill them legally?

In the same document
But from the same document,
If you catch any of the introduced species in this brochure, don’t return
them to the water. Either eat them or immediately dispose of them
humanely.
All noxious fish should be destroyed immediately in an humane manner. And the way i read ( or release into any waters ) means exactly what is says, so if the redfin is in your hand and alive, you then drop it into the water, you have just released it into the water. Irrespective of were it was caght.
Not having a go at anyone just pointing out other parts of the document,

Did he 'spear' the fish back
Did he 'spear' the fish back in, only for it to surface belly up in the background as the camera pans away? Lol
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Yes but that reference is in
Yes but that reference is in regards to releasing them into waters other than where they came from, hence illegal to transport them in a container where they may still be alive.
No references into legally having to kill them. It only says
"Please keep ALL redfin you catch
and don’t release them into our
waterways or dams."
Which to me is more a request than a law.
Like I said doesn't bother me as I keep them anyway, but until someone can provide and actual law regarding the illegality of actually catch and release of a noxious fish back into the waters it came from, I am going to take what the Fisheries Lads down at Pemberton told me and that is that you can, just to please don't.

Any fillet size redfin
Any fillet size redfin should only go one place when caught, and that is the dinner plate. Best eating freshwater fish around imo.

Good reply Buz
Buz - you nailed the answer and back ground information. With all types of fishing know the rules/regulations fellow anglers and talk to Fisheries as it is their job to explain the relevant information in a clear manner.
The angler in the Ifish show is Hal Harvey with his son Jack and if you know your WA fishing you will also know who he is and how he is envolved in fishing.
I was also part of this Ifish episode filmed a year ago and the first showing was in July this year

With Buz and Redfinman here.
With Buz and Redfinman here. Everything ive read from official fisheries signs/websites has states that Redfin are a pest and if caught SHOULD not be released. Don't think its illegal though. Doesn't matter to me as I generally eat anything 25cm+ and the rest is used for bait. :)

Redfin Perch are pests and
Redfin Perch are pests and breed like crazy. They take over other fishes habitats and eat marron and kill native species. They should not be released. They are a pretty aggressive fish love soft plastics, frogs worms you name it. I have a secret spot and caught about 30 in 20mins, took a few home for the dinner plate and tasted pretty decent.
