Reel to match Daiwa Demon Blood 56-3/5 OH
Submitted by JimmyG on Tue, 2013-11-12 23:09
Hi guys
looking for a recommendation to match the Daiwa Demon Blood 56-3/5 OH.
will mainly be used for bottom bashing, 40m - 80m, and perhaps some jigging.
so far am thinking:
Talica 10ii
Saltist LD
Fin Nor Marquesa MA 12 0r 16.
was thinking of running 50lb.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Talica 8
I have a Talica 8 on similar set up. No need for two speed. The thinner model is lighter and easier to use and jig with.
bulletproof and my favourite reel of all time.
i would get over 400m of PE4 braid on it I am pretty sure.
In my opinion much better than other two reels you mentioned.

Oceanside??
I bought a second Talica from them last week and they gave me a good "fishwrecked" price.
you could PM Oceanside on here and they will get back to you.
They recently got more Shimano reels in last week too.

I will give them a ring and
I will give them a ring and see what they have in stock.
They gave me a good deal on my demersal jig outfit a couple of months ago, and happy to support the site sponsors.

Spot on with the Talica
Spot on with the Talica recommendation I reckon.
Also could look at the new Trinidads or if you prefer star drag, Ocea Jigger
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Oceanside are out of stock at
Oceanside are out of stock at the moment, so may have to wait...not sure I will be that patient though.
Thanks for the recommendation dkonig82, I prefer the lever drag so will stick with that at the moment.
Which PE 4 braid are you running on the TAC 8 ricey? No backing line I'm guessing?

I had a Saltist 50H on that
I had a Saltist 50H on that exact rod and it felt too big. I would go a 30H if choosing daiwa.
Personally I would go the talica.

If the Talica is unavailable
If the Talica is unavailable and you can put up with the noise they make on retrieve (much less of an issue for bottom bashing than for jigging where you hear it all day) then you could also look at the JM reels.
They look flash, have a mountain of drag and come with a decent handle from the factory - which many Shimano do not.
I don't own a JM anymore, but they do definitely have their plusses

Thanks for all the input
Thanks for all the input guys, have decided to go with the Talica 8, running PE4 diawa braid.
Another reel I was considering was the Okuma Makaira 8 or 10.
They have been given a great write up by Alan Tani, and sound like a tough little reel, but no one seems to stock them here.
So Talica it is!
