Reel recommendations plz
Submitted by firiefish on Fri, 2009-08-28 13:32
I'm looking for a cheap spin reel in the 2500/3000 size, to match with a light 7'3 graphite rod. I'm looking at only spending roughly $150. Will be used as my squid reel metro and light beach work in exmouth. Any assistance would be appreciated.

If you can find someone locally (or online) that sells
the Abu Garcia T-Alloy series they would definately be worth a look at.

where, at a close out sale Brad?
The new Stradic FI is over $200 and some of the larger models are pushing $300. Maybe if you can find an older model Stradic you could be in luck and get it at a good price?
The Shimano Symetre is around the $150 mark and is a good little reel, also the Daiwa Exceler Plus. I'm sure Banax have a number of reels in that price bracket also (may be a bit heavier though). Just to add to what has already been suggested.

If you want value for money
If you want value for money i would go the 2009 model Shimano Symetre 3000FJ .
It's $155 at BCF and is as close as you can get to the Stradic without the price tag.
Otherwise check out the Abu Soron STX series. For just under $200 the Soron is in my opinion the best value for money reel you can buy. You can't go wrong with 11 corrossion resistant ball bearings! & a water proof carbon fibre drag system.

As you can see, plenty to
As you can see, plenty to choose from. Dont forget Pflueger reels as well. They're very under-rated reels in terms of quality and value. Another recommendation is the Banax Si reels, full metal reels with worm drive and can be had for under $150.
Come in and check it all out. Bring the rod with ya so you can balance up the reel to the rod.

Thanks
Really appreciate the advice fellas. Much appreciated to all that replied. Had some similar thoughts and may go the little extra for the stradic.
