Reel repair/service

Can some one recommend a shop to service/repair a trinidad 16n? Came from a hock shop cheap but its low on drag and grabs and makes noise, hoping its not a major isssue.

Cheers

Bluewater

Hey mate,

Bluewater serviced my saragossa 18000. The service was good , it just took a little while and was a bit pricey. But overall a good service.

But if you do a bit of research you might be able to do it yourself and save a lot of money. I do my reels myself now and find its not so bad after i done it a few times.

Cheers Seb

I second Shimano. I have used a couple of reel service mobs in Perth and rarely been completely happy.

cheers, would give it a shot myself but no manual, spose i could find one online.... looks like shimano may be the best option. also have a bad feeling about it, the drag doesnt worry me but the spool grabbing does. will have a closer look at it, plenty of substitutes so no hurry to get it fixed. also need a rod for it any suggestions?

Great match and really nice for off perth. Will handle lightish jigs and has a pretty good tip for drift baiting.

After closer inspection

After closer inspection (didnt really look at it much originally) i noticed the spool was filled unevenly and rubbing on the frame, winning.

Probably just order drag washers and do them myself, thanks for the input though.

We do reel servicing here

Wed, 2011-08-17 12:10

We do reel servicing here including topend reels. If your going to replace the drag washers use the Jack Erskine Carbontex ugrade kit. Far smoother and better than the originals (we sell them here)

As for the rod, look at the Expert Graphite "Ares" rods/Jigging Master rods/Ugly Stik Bluewater series etc

Ok so i fitted new drag

Wed, 2011-09-21 13:07

Ok so i fitted new drag washers and it feels ok but when i pulled it apart there seems to be alot of play in the drive shaft, drive gear/drag washers ect removed i could move the shaft around in any direction, once it was all back together its noticeable the shaft has a fair amount of play, can it be shimmed?. Anybody own a trinidad and ever have a similar problem? Starting to think this thing had some serious abuse jigging.... as the drag washers looked like someone had smeared black grease more suited to hd mechanics all over em.
