Replacement car keys

I have lost the keys to my Jackaroo and don't have a replacement set.

i don't want to take it to a Holden dealership as apparently they will want to re - key the car and repair the broken alarm system and keyless entry for about $1k. - given the car is worth about $4k, I don't want to spend that sort of coin.

Does anyone know if there are locksmiths who can replace car keys - found a couple on the internet but they are over East.

Any help appreciated.

Good on you dhuiej, for offering to help  will  keep you in mind for my own jobs.

Big frank , price of progress mate ( or is it progress?) we had a late 90,s beemer, that only came with one

key , so I thought it was wise to get a spare, haha, 800 big ones for a key and for coding it.

Purely on principle , even If I had the dough , I wouldnt pay that for a spare key.

( got a spare key cut for the gq last year, at one of those key booths at garden city , $12 , I think it was) little steep I though

only took him a minute to cut it.

Been in the same boat, but had a key spare. But to replace the WRX's key with a chip in it - $800!!! Get fked.

Also tried to help a poor sod at Port Hedland Airport Carpark. New Keyless entry car with a flat battery after 2 weeks in Bali. His key wouldnt work because the car was flat. No physical key to get in. Simply jumping the car wouldnt work because off the difficulty getting under the hood because the bonnet impossible to open from outside the car.

Decided (he did) to smash a small window to get in, opened the boot and jump it. All this did was scrable the computer and now nothing worked. Called the local dealership but was a Sunday. Called a support network and was told all needs reprogramming and key need recode. Poor guy and family left stranded at Airport facing a bill for a smashed window and reprogramming of $1200.

Technology makes our life easier???

I think sometimes not.

Technology - I know remote

Technology - I know remote heads on keys don't like it when you end up in the drink at the boat ramp with the remote in your pocket. The old type keys (non remote head type) still worked fine after a drink didn't they!!

if you want a bit of a backup, you can actually "record" your electronic key-

ive got a mazda and it works for me, use your mobile phones sound record function, and press the button on the key to unlock your car. the phone should actually record the electronic frequency! (same as your garage remote) then i have a spare key (non electronic) which I now stash in the car because I got caught out once before.

If you're out camping or fishing and drop your keys iin the water, you can use your phone to unlock the car, just play the sound bite, then jump in and grab the spare key to drive home again! dunno if it works for newer models, but worth a shot, give it a crack!!

I just tried it and it doesn't work for me. I have a 2012 Falcon and a Samsung S4 phone.

Cheers
