Replacing Water Separating Fuel Filter

Hi Guys, I want to replace this filter myself, never done one before. Is it as simple as unscrewing old one and screwing in new one? Any tips?

unscrew from the fuel lines, pour contents into a container, unscrew clear collection bulb and empty it as well, screw everything to the new filtter, rub the filter seal with a little bit of petrol, and screw it back in.

Fill the filter with fuel before you screw it back on, this saves a lot of priming when you go to start it up later. Same thing with any upright oil and diesel fuel filters on diesels

Just like changing an oil filter in the car Simo, just two parts to it.

Seperate, clean the glass bowl, as above lubricate the seals, (i used a smere of two stroke oil) then put it all back together without over tightening.

I used my old oil filter remover to do it, very easy.

Take a good look at the entry and exit connections Simo, one looks like it's split? Or is that cable protector?

Like Deckie says a smear of oil or grease on the seal and screw it up till it connects the half a turn to snug fit the seal.

Take care when unscrewing the plastic bowl from the filter.

The bowl can crack if you get heavy handed.

fuel water filtration

why can't it be cleaned ?

I have the same system and in a few years use does not look anything as dirty as yours does and has never been cleaned.

You must get some pretty shitty fuel from someplace

( why not just drain the water out of the filter bowel via the drain plug under the bowel ? )

I noticed when doing a mates one recently, that there can sometimes be a rubber seal that goes between the housing, and the threads where the filter actually screws on. Not just the usual rubber seal around the top lip of the filter, but actually something like a large o ring, that you slide onto the threads of the filter housing, to help seal the centre of the filter to the suction (centre) of the filter housing where the fuel actually flows through. Hope that makes sense.
