Right Time, Right Place
Well i couldn't pass up another oportunity to get out on the water with the forcast looking so good, the bottom fishing was crap but i marked an area where bait was working in the morning for a place to start looking for billfish mostly Sailfish in slighly shallower water of 30m instead of the 40+ everyone hits the marlin at just to see if the sails like the dirtier water. get back there 3.5 hours later and the action is still on, birds working and fish all around so out went the spread and heres the results.
Needless to say the best fishing moment of my life happened this sunday just gone. I was about to land my new PB spanish Mack pushing around the 20kg or more mark, previous best was maybe 10kgs only to have this giant shape appear boatside, i was thinking bloody big shark, but no it was the mother of all Black Marlin, i'm guessing at over 100kgs EASY wanting my mackerel as lunch, he made the 5ft whaler look small while attacking my fish, he tangled into my line and i couldn't get him to eat the mack as he felt the tension but the 10 mins we had fighting this beast was just unbelievable, made me realise my pushers where rather undersized, we hooked one more black marlin that day at a more regular 30-40kg but didn't stay connected but a heap of spaniards that destroyed my pushers and a few mack tunas and everyone onboard had a bloody good fish to pose with, enjoy the pics fellas. Also now have 5 destroyed pushers but it was well worth doing it means i can go online shopping this week.
Gareth with the first fish, if only i knew what was about to happen i would have had a go a rigging him up
what the hell is that chasing my big Mackerel?
BIG marlin, oh shit! my fish at the top of screen, 5ft whaler mid shot to the left and well you can work out the other one...
he's tangled in the line and PISSED!
see ya later losers!
TOUCHDOWN!
wait a minute, he's coming back...
can we move forward please?
FORWARD FORWARD FORWARD!!!!!
Untangled, off to fight another day and the end result, dinner last night.
Gareths 1st Spanish Mack ever, released.
John on the tuna, definantly should have rigged this one, released.
Arsey Bitch aka Tobi with another big Spaniard from my boat, released.
John, now in on the Mack attack, released
Gareth with his final fish for the day, the biggest one we landed, released.

Yes sir!!!
Bloody hell Brucesta. Next youll be winning the Billie shootout raising a fish like that. Makes you realize the size if it was heading for a 10k mack for brekkie how small our pusher truely are. I have about six rigged to go, and 2 are large, but compared with a mack tiny.
Even rigging the mack tuna as a bait I would have felt a little like "How bigs my dick" but it just shows the saying, big bait - big fish. Also saw something next to the boat near Bare Rock on saturday, chasing up a rainbow runner. I thought it was a Taxman but I did think the pectoral fins were very large. A little to deep to fully ID but just maybe.
Love the shots.

ahh see thats the key Neels,
ahh see thats the key Neels, it's not the size of fish it's the number of fish that wins you a comp like that, mate if i could find a spot that produces little 10-15kg blacks and sails then i'd have a shot, a marlin is a marlin in a comp unfortunantly, it's trips like that one you want to tangle with them and i'd love the opportunity to find one like it again and hook him properly and land it.
Billfish bug has now hit VERY hard, such good fun.
Cheers for the kind words gents.

Some very quick work with the camera and an awesome report!
Nice one
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

marlin
that is faaaarkin awesome! some great pics there!! thats the kinda stuff that makes the ocean so special , no matter how many trips out there , always that chance of seeing something different and usually mind blowing! deffinently some pool room worthy pics there of that bigfella going bananas!
few years back off damps when i was living in hedland we had a kind of similar experiance out chasing sails aswell. glassed off and jigging some bait out of the schools up there , i was in the water taking some footage when a black of about 50-60kg swam up to us! luckily tho we had a livey rod rigged and my mate landed the fish an hour 20mins later light spin gear. Seeing that fish underwater blew me away

Trolling doggie macks works Bruce
I used to troll dead doggie macks around up there in the early 80s. Never got the big billy I was after but the mack baits used to get the attention of small blacks that we didn't seem to be raising on the trolled gardies. I recall reading somewhere that a marlin is capable of eating other fish up to 1/3rd of its own weight so on the basis it doesn't make a doggie mack bait too big at all.
