River blowies...
Submitted by BlackSonEmpire on Tue, 2008-03-18 14:52
theres nothing i enjoy more than wasting a few hours down the swan river on a nice day flicking different soft plastics around the flats and structure looking for a waiting flathead or bream. The only problem with this is as soon as the softy hits the water it gets smashed by blowies! so annoying and a waste of time and money. Obviously the hard body lures are an option but is there any secrets to using the plastics without the headeche of blowfish? i know the further upstream i go the less blowies there are but i live near freo so this is my preffered area.

Unfortunately there's no way around it other than keep moving or fish deeper or sight fish instead.

Yep
Back arse can be caught from shore but no often more on the offshore reefs and BSP fish are from deep water reefs , I would swap a Break sea cod for a pig fish any day , might just be me but I love them over any other fish .
only thing I can't do with a pig fish is SASHIMI I would Rather a nice Tuna or Bonito for that or even a big 'ol Amberjack .
HMMM might have to see the skipper for a trip out to the Amberjack reef , Wasabi, soy and a little sesame oil , hold the fillet over a flame to seal the outside then thinly slice the meat , ohhhhhhh yum ,
thats it I'm off to see the skipper .

Avoid the pink ones
I have found that if your trying to avoid blowies your better off using anything but a pink lure. It kinda sucks that sometimes the pink ones are the best but the blowies just smash them.

Blowies should not exist
I think we should all put our heads together and invent blowie repellent that is also all other fish attractant.
The love of a screaming drag is universal to all fisherman.

Have been huge schools of blowys heading north along comet bay. Every ten meters or so you see a brown cloud in the water. Would be easy to wipe out.Where do they come from and where are they going always heading north?
I actually fish.
