River setup.

Hey everyone just joined the site and am enjoying looking over the various posts. Looks like a great fishing community on here.

I'm interested in focusing on some river fishing (bream, flathead) and am stuck on what rod and reel to buy. I've been to a couple of shops but really have no idea where to start. Staff are usually helpful but I'd like to get feedback and advice from people who have experience with certain rods/reels.

Am looking to spend under $200 (not including line), just something rather basic to begin with. Any help is appreciated. Cheers.

not sure if you are NOR or SOR

but I'd say go and see the site sponsers (NOR - Tackle Shack in Malaga) (SOR - Oceanside in Oconnor) and I'm sure they'll set you up with an outfit in your budget.

Its a tough budget, the reel is where I'm struggling. Rod I would say a Berkely dropshot/shimano starlo stix or something like that around that $100 mark, and then a reel around the 1500/2000/2500 size.

There are so many choices. If you want a great value rod that I really love for bream fishing then have a look at the Berkley Dropshots. That will give you a little more leeway to spend on a better quality reel.
I have a little Okuma reel that I find goes ok for bream fishing and they won't break your budget.

The Tackleshack had a deal on a Daiwa combo that would come way in under your budget and that would definately be a good start-up set-up.
