On the road again
Submitted by Doc on Mon, 2019-05-06 12:38
Well in my best Willy Nelson, we’re on the road again. Doctor gave me clearance to get back on our travels so booking a couple of flights each to get back to Geraldton in a couple of weeks and drive back to Mingenew where our bus is. Minus the pooch, we’ll pick him up again later on. Going to spend a while exploring the gold fields, oddly enough, in all our travels, we’ve been to Kalgoorlie just the once, so looking forward to visiting some of these old towns before we go and trip around the Murray River in the summer. Bring on the yella bellies.

Good stuff Doc, have a look at the old Kookynie Hotel, mid 86/87 since I was there last but I believe it’s still there.

G’day guys, thanks for the good wishes. Kookynie and the dam is on our agenda, heard really good things about that place. Hopefully the dams full of yabbies.
Rob, thanks for the offer, but at this stage, we’re getting picked up from the airport and getting driven back to the farm.
Sunshine, cheese and bardie grubs? Used grubs before but not cheese, but I do prefer a live yabbie.
Da Pirate, yep, like the spinner lures. Use them most if not using lives.

Heading back over on Monday
Heading back over on Monday morning, been a good break, caught up with world class surfing, every Geelong game thus far this year. But can’t wait to get on the move again. See it’s been getting a bit cool over there, may have to pack some winter clothes.

G’day lads, landed back in
G’day lads, landed back in the W of A yesterday morning and caught the short flight to Geraldton ok, got out to Mingenew to find a few cockies wanted me to check their tractors and some of their equipment, it’s in the middle of seeding and I’m happy to oblige. Top up on fuel tomorrow, in-law sells it to me pretty cheap from his supplies. Take slow mosy to Mt Magnet. Glad I brought a jumper too. Looks like one spot we planned to visit is no longer available, I was quite looking forward to Ora Banda.

Ha, no, haven’t got a new
Ha, no, haven’t got a new chair yet. Maybe when we get to Kalgoorlie. Spending a couple of days in Mt Magnet, nice little town, good cold beer at the Hotel. Diesel heater has been getting a workout, but we’re on 240v here in the park, so the air cond can keep us warm. Although it hasn’t been too bad the last couple of nights.

Used to be a good bakery in Mt Magnet once, don’t know if it’s still there. Where you headed from there?

Doc, you can even buy press moulds
To put your cheep “black and gold” cheese in to press out imitation baldie grubs .......and it works as well as the real thing and a bloody sight cheaper and more environmentally friendly that digging larger holes near wattle trees

Well every now and then you
Well every now and then you come across a diamond in the rough, that’s certainly what Alice Atkinson’s Sandstone Caravan Park is. Wet weather is coming in and this is a great little spot to hole up in, ripper meals at the old pub up the street. Mainly prospectors here, but they’re pretty happy to show you what they’ve found over a beer or 3. Mrs is into photography and there’s a lot of stuff here for her. I’m really looking forward to spending a week here.

Yes, she’s a good old pub at Sandstone, been about 8 years since I was there last. Bit of an oasis.

Yes it is, so much so we’ve
Yes it is, so much so we’ve decided to stay a bit longer. For a place in the middle of nowhere, there’s a bit to do, and the other half’s getting some great photos. Had some rain last weekend but being on 240v power, the aircon has been set on 24 degrees.
