ROAD SOUTH IS OPEN
Submitted by carnarvonite on Wed, 2010-12-29 10:47
The road south from Carnarvon re opened this morning for daylight traffic only and subject to local speed restrictions..
The crews have been working day and night to get side tracks in place and this has shortened the expected time considerably, they deserve a good pat on the back for what they hace achieved in such a short time.

They haven't named it a cyclone as yet just a tropical low and its not expected to cross the coast. It will travel down aboutv 100km off the coast bringing rain and gale force winds.

Just heard from friends
in, think the B4 Caravan Park and has lost everything, as he said 2000 was nothing to this and they are 10yrs older, making it a bit harder in their 70's, they've got nearly 60% cleaned out, that was about 4 days ago from his email.

Carnarvon caravan park
I have got my bus parked up in Carnarvon caravan park and while most of the major clean up have been done the electicity is still off untill it can be certified safe by Horizon power.
Todays [Sunday] rain has turned it in to an ice skating ring for cars as it is just enough to turn it all back to mud again.
The assessors will be in town tomorrow and hopefully the ball will start rolling on the final clean up of furniture, mattresses and beds etc that are piled up in front of each place that was flooded..

just got home
Just got home and couldn't bring myself to drive through Canarvon itself, what an absolute mess! On the way out past BP you just see the whole inside of the house emptied onto the front lawn, must be very distressing. Amazing to see what levels the water was at, just crazy!!

BP
Took the flood boat for a drive between the bowsers of the BP while it was on.
And for the latest news!!!! we are expecting another river to come down over night and tomorrow with a predicted height of 6.0 metres, though nowhere near the 7.9 we just had it will cause a heap of trouble for those in the lower lying spots
