Rockfishing blackspots

Hi guys,
I have just completed my "Danger is only a wave away" Artical
It came us so well and thanks to you guys who helped with some saftey points to help make the artical come out so good.

I have a final question. I want to make up a list of W.A's most Blackspot areas.
Please list any known danger spots.

I will start with the salmon holes.......

Highrock, Whistling rock etc at Quobba.........also crossing the gauntlet getting to Garths rock. Plenty of people have gone in around these areas.

In Esperance, Chapmans rock and Dempster head are well known black spots...

definatly running the gauntlet across to garths rock at quobba...had a scary experience there one year before first light.

Also the lower, "safer looking" ledges at quobba, they will lull you into a false sense of security.

Andrew "Korg" Jarvis got washed off one of the ledges in '08 and hes been fishing there for over 20 years.

also closer to home, the Lagoon at yanchep gets pretty hairy at times and claimed the life of a lady trying to rescue her dog in '08

one of the snorkeling spots at Cape range national park has a really nasty under current and claimed the life of a young irish backpacker last year, we were all helping him out tip wise on another forum as he made his way up the coast, and we couldnt believe it when he lost his life.

RIP Liam O'conner.

cheers russ

Quobba

Tue, 2010-05-25 18:03

Years ago I was at Quobba when an Asian couple were fishing at Camp Rock and both the husband and wife were taken by the sea, then two years ago in 07 there were three people from Capel crossing the Gauntlet to get to Garths and sadly the Father of two boys was also taken. I nearly went in at high rock twenty years ago when a bigger then normal wave caught me by suprise from behind. Virtually every popular fishing spot at Quobba has a plaque erected with the names of fishos who have never returned along with a "sea angel" which can hopefully be tossed into the water if someone goes into the drink.

The capel boys are good

The capel boys are good mates of mine, the father was knocked out on the way in...very unfortunate.

I think cave point in Albs is a high risk area...its very accessible so alot of inexperienced fisho's frequent that area.
