Rod for Saltiga 6000 GT

Hey guys if you had a Saltiga 6000 GT filled with 85 pound accudepth hyper pe braid on it what rod would you buy for it?

But the combo wont really be used for jigging it will be more for soft plastics, bottom bouncing maybe tralling, and even for un weight baits for sharks. i was thinking the S-extreme 56 xhfs saltiga rod just cause the two would match up. also other combos already owend are a terez 30-50 pound with a stella 5000 and 50 pound hyper pe. and a saltiga 4500 with 30 pound hyper pe on a pe 2-3 saltiga rod.

Btw this is just out of curiosity for a mate who just bought it and has those combos not for me :P. I suggested a smith rod like the nirari 55 but yeah what would you do?

Broomstick

A broomstick lol. I use that reel for LBG spinning pelagics or BB for snapper.
Something like a saltiga gt86 for LBG

 agree on the saltiga gt86

Thu, 2012-06-14 16:31

agree on the saltiga gt86 for landbased work, maybe the saltiga 80tn for soft plastics? I use this same set up for bottom bashing with baits and metal jigs/slices and surface work, my go to outfit when I gotta travel lite.

Pretty useless for trolling,

Pretty useless for trolling, unless you're into switchbaiting, and even then probably with mono.

Can't say I know of anyone else using SPs on 85lb, most people are using 20lb to get some kind of action.

Accudepth is ok, but there are much better value cheaper alternatives.

A Saltiga 6000 is like an elephant gun. Unless you want to catch elephants, you leave it at home.

Whats so good about thinner?

Whats so good about thinner?

Good: Sure you could get more onto a reel, but then you could always fit a bigger spool as well.

Bad: reduced abrasion resistance and poorer knot strength as the diameter decreases.

Here is a tradeoff for you. You could buy super expensive jap pe and get almost 600m of 78lb on a stella 20k OR you could, buy a SOM spool for it, and use cheaper Daiwa Saltiga Boat Braid instead. The DSBB is really good, and when you lose your expensive line, you will be really upset but when you lose your DSBB, you won;t feel so bad.

Read this and you will find out that the line diameters quoted, along with the breaking strain are pretty much bullshit.

el syd: I don't rate either trolling braid or eggbeaters.

nah i use mine for trolling, nothing too deep handles a gt trembler alright 80 lbs rovex depthfinder braid and for my soft plastic work i used those elevator style jig heads nice and heavy with 5 inch hollow body or twisty tails for jewies up here

Thu, 2012-06-14 19:28

no worries , back to rod chocies again, what about xzoga jigging rod? a bit more lenght than some other jigging rods, mates in QLD use them on the reef with soft plastics and baits with same sized reels

hi guys, well as fanatic

Thu, 2012-06-14 21:25

hi guys, well as fanatic mentioned i just got a new one, will be used more for bottom bouncing and the possibilty of some jigging, i would rather be matching it to a daiwa rod, i like to keep my brands together if that makes any sense. In saying that though i will be going to Oceanside to check out some of what they have in stock, xzoga and jigging masters etc. i supposed budget is a concern at the moment so anything around the $300-$400 mark really. Oh and fanatic it is a 4000 size saltiga on a Saltiga 62s/2-3  i already have, just got the new z6000gt.

till, obviously the thinner you go in braids means you can get away with using less weight, ie less water drag on the line when it is being sent down 80-100mtrs down. Plus braid under tension has no abrasion resistance whatsoever. I don't know if you have tried it yet but put braid under tension and mono under tension, cross the two over each other and tell me what gives way first.....98% of the time braid goes ping before the mono. So to answer you in regards to an expensive braid vrs a non expensive braid, would you run fireline over accudepth if givent the choice?????? I think not. Plus why do you think that Daiwa Accudepth hyper pe is not a good braid...or better still one of the better braids out on the market? Plus if i am paying $75.00 for the 300mtr spool of accudepth why would i choose a cheaper alternative...like some people say, if you like it and it does the job that you want it to, why change? Also i already run 20lb, 30lb, 40lb, 50lb on my gear i take out, but sometimes when you get unstoppables on the lighter gear, it is always good to be able to pull out a big gun to find out what is smoking you every time and stealling your jig heads, plastics and terminal tackle. I am pretty sure the boys chasing the unstoppables will tell you it is better to be prepared rather than out gunned and lose alot of $$$ to frieght trains that come around every now and then. I have never had a knot give way or part with thin braid a bimini tends to help in this by doubling the diameter of the knot.

El Syd, I will definately keep an open mind when looking into the rods, i have heard a lot of good reports with the xzogas so will keep it in mind.

I am actually looking at all  these... Daiwa Saltiga Spartan SG-SP 63S-5/6, Daiwa Saltiga SG Muramura 76, Daiwa Saltiga S-Extreme 56 xhfs, Daiwa Saltiga SG57S-5/6F, Live Fibre Venom PE2-5 Deep Jig Spin Rod, Lox Iridium King 70215, Samarai Reaction Jigging SRJIG 10 6', Smith AMJ S56M,  Smith AMJ S52EX. So as you can see i have been looking and doing some homework, I think it comes down to the feel of them and how I like them.

Thanks for your opinions.
