Rotto Shorebased fun fishing

Hi all

Searched on here for not much info. Since the last 6 yrs up in karratha has ended having some R&R at Rotto before starting work in the new job in Mandurah. Used to spend a lot off time there as a student, but was more interested in G&G (grog and girls) then.

Been ages since I have fished anywhere there shorebased. Not taking the boat over due to servicing needs, so shore based.

Not looking for anything huge, more just sitting back soaking a line and relaxing (which is why I love fishing).

Anyone have any suggestions for a lazy fish.

Only taking bream/hezza/tailor/squid type rigs over, ie light.

Comments appreciated.

Neels

I wish I lived in Kalbarri Cransy, I think you might have me confused with Tangles, he lives there and so does Old Banga.

I love Kalbarri but those guys are the gurus lol

Hey Neels,

Fish hook bay (herring & squid at night)
West end (salmon,Tailor)
Natural jetty (whiting)
Army Jetty (squid,herring) night

Key to getting a feed of bread & butter fish is bring them to you.
Herring etc live on bread on rotto, they love it
and if you can get it Pollard & oil or bread crumbs
Best oil ,the chicken fat from your locale Red Rooster (take a empty container to put it in) fish attractant gold.
popping for whiting on any of the beaches is a relaxing walk also (narrow neck, salmon bay,Parker point etc)
Hope that helps.

Yep take a big rod as well.  Always gummies and rays getting caught at the main jetty.  Also those yellow lights and a float is the rig you need to catch the tailor off the jetty

Yes my kids have been spooled a few times

Tue, 2014-03-11 11:11

they think its just fantastic! There are big silver bream under the jetty so while your trying to catch them the rays take your bait. As guys have said above use pollard, and baitchasers attached to a berley cage. I cast out to the left of the jetty, once you've berleyed them up you'll be sick of catching herring usually get double headers. I catch them for Dhufish bait there the evening before going out off direction bank all my biggest dhueys have been caught on whole herring they absolutely love em. Might see you there Im gonna be there from 13/4 - 19/4 hope the weather is OK.

Thank you all for the info

Going tomorrow for 5 days. Not normally a snappy but will take the camera.

From the above comments might drag the Jig10 and Stella 10000 and go waterskiing - somehow for a relaxing time that sounds to back breaking.  Might balloon a live hezza out and you never know!!!!?

Whiting popping at the natural jetty sounds like fun.

Will be there in a camping chair sipping a few coldies (and walking the bike back).

Will all be C&R as I dont think the Lodge has cooking facilities. Staying at the Lodge a Xmas present from the Mrs, but I think I was coned. It is the no cooking and "take me out" that she liked

Tue, 2014-03-11 14:26

I was fishing the main jetty last Saturday and caught huge gardies....and a massive sambo kept coming out for a look every time I got one close to the jetty. Got a few herring a few nights before too
